I was excited about my 22.5 with cruise control at 85mph, but that's impressive

Best I've gotten out of a tank was 25.7 ad that was with about 200 highway.

How does everyone calculate? I use Fuelly and it's fool proof as it tracks your odometer price of fuel etc so there is no fudging. My average is 24.7 so far with a 50/50 split between city and highway.

I don't trust the dash estimate but it is only off .4 so it's pretty close.

I reset on a 40 mile highway trip and it showed 28 then I got off in red light city and it went down to 24 etc.

I average 30 mpg all day long with 50/50 city/highway. Straight hwy I'll get around 35-36 mpg. Not a single mod with nearly 40k miles on the clock already.

The people that are getting 40+ mpg have completely unrestricted exhausts. I been thinking about that but I'm worried about what it will sound like, smell like or if it will hurt the car at all. It would be cool if some one did a write up about it.

Re: 37 mpg at 75 mph cruise

I got 29.637 mpg on my 2,103 05 mile round trip and thought that was pretty good. Trying to hold a steady 75MPH on I-95 was imposable due to the huge amount of traffic. I had to keep up or stay in the right lane and do 55 to 60 so I just went with the flow at 75 up to 95 at times. Above Richmond it was a lot of stop & go driving all the way (off & on) to past Baltimore Md. I did not even worry about my MPG at all. I had the AC on all the way and used nothing but 87 octane.

Some night I'm going to find someplace here in Florida that I can put my car on cruise and run a steady 70MPH for 100 miles or so just to see if I can up my MPG average. The only problem is I don't think there is a road in this whole state that there is not traffic 24 hours a day.

When I took just about the same trip up to Maryland with My Mini JCW I averaged 34.108 MPG using 93 octane premium.

I'm very happy with the over all MPG my Mustang is getting using 87 octane gas and driving without trying to save gas at all.

I do use the pencil & paper method of calculating my milage.
Ronnie

Re: 37 mpg at 75 mph cruise

Still a whole lot of traffic there. I'm going to try I-4 at around 3 am and see if I can do it there. Alligator alley is a log way south of Daytona Beach.

Filled up yesterday. 24.5 mpg
I have 4k on it. Did anyone see better mpgs after so many miles? I'll have to take a highway trip to see if it increases. The only trips ive done involved some mountains with some fun curves so I know that negated my highway miles.

I'm ok with getting the 24 and 25 which would mean I'm getting a blend of 28 or so on the highway and the 19 mpg around the city.

I use cruise control @ 73mph (so when the speed limit is 65 you can hit the brakes and your going 70.) I turn it off going down hill and press resume when going up hill. I'll get around 31-32.2. I have Michelin defender tires and it's all stock. I also have leather seats which add weight. 52k miles. It can be done. Just have to know how to drive like a Prius owner. But when I get into it around town for fun I get anywhere from 16.5 to 21. All depending on how much I want to scare myself.

Re: 37 mpg at 75 mph cruise

I took a small trip on the interstate yesterday, less than 100 miles round trip @ 77mph. The rest of this tank has been city/country roads. The information center average is reading about 28.1mpg right now, which when I fill up it will probably be around 29mpg actual. Since I'm a manual, I've got slightly wider/stickier BFG T/As.

I thought it was just either basic and premium. The premium had wider tires than the basic right or is that just a misconception?

Auto's have 10mm narrower tires than the manuals, and get a harder rubber for better gas mileage. Manuals get BFGs.

I had BFGs for my old set. These michelins are a little pricey but I've actually saved gas with them and they smooth out the rugged ride

Re: 37 mpg at 75 mph cruise

My car came with the Pirrilli P-Zero Nero tires.

I can hardly wait for them to wear out so I can put a set of Michelin's on it.

I might even do it anyway and see if My Michelin tire dealer will give me anything if I trade thes Pirrilli's in.

I have been using Michelin tires on almost every car I have ever owned and find them to be excellent in every way.

Same here. Except my first car. We used hankook. Went through 4 sets in a year. I like my defenders so far. But they make my car feel like its sitting higher up. We got a $75 dollar debit card from Michelin when we bought each set (we bought three sets that day) but I'm not sure if that promotion is still available a month later.
