V-6- Just because it does things better (DUH!)

July 2012 issue of Motor Trend.

They did an article in issue July with a six contestant shootout.
Ford Mustang V-6-- Hyundai Genesis coupe-- Mazda MX5 Miata -- Scion FR-S-- Subaru BRZ-- Volkswagen GTI.

Although the Mustang V-6 had the best zero to 60mph, the best quarter mile, The best passing speed,The best breaking, the best figure eight, The best road course lap time, and the second best lateral acceleration and used 87 octane and not 93 octane.it was only forth out of the six cars.

Motor trend attributed it to the top three had purer driving bliss and better emphasized the "critical driver car connection" ( What the heck?) I guess that Motor Trend did not see the 1,200 plus all Mustangs at the American Muscle show in Media Pa. If they did they would realize that 99% of all Mustang owners have more driving bliss & a Much Much better driving connection then either the : Subaru BRZ (Which just came out) The Scion FR-s (Just about the same car as the BRZ) or the Mazada Miata which is a nice car but can't get out of its own way. The BRZ & FR have not been out long enough or sold enough yet to even justify the idiots at Motor Trend saying such A thing.

From it's great looks to the excellent Miles per Gallon anong with the build quality, performance, breaking, handling and excitement of ownership I don't think there is a better dollar for Dollar car that offers the economy and performance of the Mustang V-6 for 2011 up. And it does it on 87 octane regular gas.

I'm beginning to think that most of thses magizine's just plain hate anything "Made in America" no matter how good an American car is.

Amen, they straight out have proof that these cars dominate, but are all like " I prefer this imported POS because we can't accept being wrong" I stopped reading after a while, just pissed me off.

I stopped reading most car magazines a long time ago. They just want to kiss import *** all the time. I guess they are trying to be more politically correct or whatever bull ****. I mean HONESTLY if the import was BETTER than I would understand. But it's not. Lol

Never take MT seriously they are Bias to eastern cars!!! 100% They also have the same comparo on youtube with the mustang v6 camaro v6, challenger v6 and the genesis v6. The mustang was #1 in every category and it came in second behind the Genesis... Their reason the Genesis felt more like a sports car than the other three. I commented how could a car that finish first in every single performance category not be considered the better sports car and place second? Motor Trend is full of crap!!!

Re: V-6- Just because it does things better (DUH!)

If I did not receive this rag for "Free" I would never purchase it.

They did the same crap with the Corvette ZR1-- Porsche shootout and the Corvette totally inialated the Porsche but the Porsche came out the winner.

One thing they don't do is not tell you the facts about the performance of the cars. They just don't pick the cars that do everything better. They just pick what they personally like better or maybe it is they pick the car they are told to pick by the bean counters.

any way, I love my "MUSTANG" no matter what they say about them.
What could be better looking then this except maybe another Mustang!

Re: V-6- Just because it does things better (DUH!)

To tell the truth. I would rather keep my Mustang. The Ferrari is nice but way to expensive and way to fragile. I seen way to many implode when I used to hot lap. They do look nice but no better looking then a late model Mustang. The Audi R-8 is also A nice car but I would not want to own one unless I hit the Lotto for a couple of million.

I still say,

I'm including "ALL" Mustangs "GT"S", "COBRA"S" & "Super Snakes" and of course our great "V-6"S

If I had a couple of million $$$$ I still would not buy a Ferrari. I would go for a Shelby super Snake though.

Sitting almost on the floor with your legs stretched out is not comfortable even if you do look cool in your Ferrari.

The only way you could change this is boycott the mag! If you buy the mag they will keep bashing our quality American cars! Some of these so called car guys are idiots. The Mustang in any form is the true sports/muscle car for the average guy and is the dominant seller amongst all sports cars.

To each there own I suppose. I love Mustangs and love mine more than any but it's not my favorite car. Just my favorite in my price range. I'll probably never be able to afford a Supercar but you can't deny they are some of the sexiest looking cars. Some dream cars that are a bit more realistic in my future would be a Corvette and GTR which I would gladly take over any stang as much as I love mine

MT gets my blood boiling. They've never liked the Mustang. Like you said, Mustang always has the numbers but MT never gives credit where credit is due.

Agreed, I was watching a video on youtube that had everything from the boss 302 laguina, 2 different porches, and a farrier 458... bias to European pos's I think so the boss and the vette were way better choices but the porches finished 1-2... I think its awesome that you can put 2 American made legends among a plethora of eruro super cars and they only pick the euro's because of the price tag. I mean if it's $60,000 more it has to be better right? (Jk)

ZR1 and GTR are both great $100,000 cars but did you know the $50,000 cheaper GT500 is only a few tenths of a second slower than those over priced cars? Might not handle as well but with an extra $50,000. I think you can build up the already bada$$ GT500 and whip the crap out of both the GTR and ZR1 not mention a lot of the $250,000+ Euro cars too!!!

Oh yeah. You could also get a GT and make it faster than the GT500 for less. The vette is one of my favorite cars. And it's not all about speed. I'd be happy with the $60k Grand Sport. IMO, it's one of the sexiest looking cars, it's quick and handles nice and is sure to turn heads. Everyone has different taste though!

They did the 200 mph test on the new gt500 and you can clearly hear the MT driver let off the throttle at 180 and hold it there then he starts to bash the qualities of the car. I quit reading MT and canceled my subscription months ago.

I got a free subscription to motortrend at a local car show about 6 months ago. Every issue immediately goes into the recycling bin. Their opinions and car reviews are absolutely worthless. They are mustangs and american car haters. The editors are old men who are afraid of horsepower and should stick to reviewing luxury cars. I'm sure they can tell you which car holds golf clubs and have secret compartments to stash their viagra. When it comes to sports cars EVERY review they give comes out wrong, every time. The faster, better handling car loses, WTF is wrong with those morons.

I don't remember who, but someone was claiming that the the mustang gets 184 hp an has a 0-60 time of like 8.5 secs.
i kno it depends on temp, altitude, humidity, etc. but he can't go sayin all mustangs are like that

Also, they just did a comparison with the Scion FRS which they said is the better car over the 3.7 mustang. The mustang has over 100 more HP, handles better, looks better and is a bigger more comfortable car for that matter. But the FRS sits lower and doesnt have body roll. WTF !!!!!!!!

Like how they somehow couldn't find a track in "good enough" shape to test the GT500. It was almost like they didn't want to test it. Then they find an oval track. Come on!!! They never seem to have a problem when testing the super cars.

Re: V-6- Just because it does things better (DUH!)

He did say he would rather buy a Mustang.

The Mustang uses 87 octane. (19 to 31 MPG)
The Scion uses 93 Premium. (22 to 30 MPG)

The Mustang looks a lot better, and has more room in it. It is a larger car and better suited for us Americans then being squashed into a tiny car.

The two cars are not even in the same class so I'm wondering why they even try to compare them.

Bottom line: I compared the Mustang to its direct competitors... Challenger V6 and Camaro V6. I also considered a used 350z, 370z, BRZ, and Genesis. The V6 Mustang had better performance than all except the 370z (very similar) and was the cheapest of them all. I'd be a moron to buy anything less.

Also if you get the chance look up the vid testing the 475hp shelby v-6. The guy actually complains about the noise... is noise concerns you when looking at a muscle car go buy a freaking lexus, no better yet a toyota and save yourself some dough.

+1. For the price the V6 Mustang is one of the best. I like the 370z but for a fully loaded Z it's close to 40k. Wayyyy too much... Even for just a sport package it's around $35k. The BRZ/FRS is nice too but is underpowered.

Wellllll there is a difference between loud and drone. I've watched the vid a couple of times and it sounds like a horrible raspy/droning noise. I had Flowmasters on my Grand Prix at one point. They droned so much I junked them for some Dynomax muffs. If I can't stand to drive a car for my ears buzzing, I'm not enjoying it at all.

1+

The 370z is a nice ride and very similar to the V6 performance wise except the nissan does handle better, however it's priced higher than a 5.0, which stomps the 370. Either way Mustang should win every time!

It's almost as bad as the MT boss 302 vs ZL1 article. The boss out ran and outperformed the Camaro but MT said that the Camaro was the winner because it had more technology. WTF. On a track your more technology car will get beaten by a car designed to beat m3's on their turf.

Amen. I personally love a Ferrari. Got to sit in a 458. I told myself I would buy one one of these days. But more realistically I'd drive a high performance mustang. Plus the cost it is just to let it sit in your garage is outrageous. A few million just means a really nice house and a few Shelby's and bosses
