What's up guys. I remember hearing about the early 3.7s having a ticking issue. My 2013 has 2600 miles on it and it has what I think it's a fairly loud tick at idle. It's there regardless of whether the motor is warm or cold. A mechanically inclined friend of mine said its sounds like a 200k mile engine. I've read that the 3.7s are rather ticky a is, but I'm beginning to think that this is a little more then that. I wanted to see if anyone else on the forums has a similar issue with a 2012 or 2013 Mustang before I bring it into the dealer. Thanks in advance for any input you guys have.

It is normal. From what I have been told our engines do not have rockers like the 5.0 does. Instead we have shims like a motorcycle engine that is why they are naturally "tickey"

Thanks! It still shocks me how loud it is. But if it's normal so be it.

If it does concern you take it to your dealer. Im just speaking from experience with a 2011 may be different on a 2013.

If you suspect something is wrong its always a good idea to let the dealer look at it. We may have something similar but that does not mean its the same.

Re: Ticking 2013?

I can hear mine tick a bit when sitting in a drive thru and listening to the engine noises reverberate off the building. I've noticed this tick in videos of '13 V6 Mustang reviews on youtube too.

Thanks man. I'm glad to hear its common and pretty normal.

I guess my biggest gripe is that it takes away from the otherwise quality feel of the car.

Mine is a 2011 v6 and bought it back in October 2010. No ticking noise here. Sounds great.

Re: Ticking 2013?

I recently took my 11' in for the ticking sound, they were very easy to deal with. It took about 3 hours to do. I reccommend doing it if you hear a tick, mine has completely dissapeared.

Re: Ticking 2013?

Ahh nice to know I am not goin nuts. !!! I have that ticking noise as well on the passenger side valve cover when it warms up.. although cold no noise. When its tickin.. I can actually feel the ticking vibration when I touch the cam sensors. on the passenger cylinder head..lol . I changed the oil at 1000 miles . I have 1100 miles now and taking it to the dealer Tuesday .. Also... I had a oil leak at 80 miles . on the oil filter adapter. there is a female allen plug on the bottom. it was seeping oil out .. The dealer replaced it no problem no leak .. afterwards. The Tech was cool and showed me the old plug. It has an o-ring for the seal . We both looked at it for alil bit and couldnt see any defect.. the only thing we could figure out is that it was overtightened at assembly. . No leak with new plug. I will keep all of ya posted on The gremlin in the motor. . other than that. great car love it ....
