my new....shelby?

okok I know its the wrong forum, but im gettin used to you guys and showing off my wifes 13. In the past two mos, you could say Ive been bitten with the garage envy bug.

now thats not easy to do when you have a mint condition 99 FRC Z51 Corvette in the garage with 69k miles. But its happened. I want a mustang, I want it white, and I want it now!

So, tomorrow the vette may be gone and its place

Its a gorgeous 2007 GT that was sent to Shelby for the full $10k upgrade pkg to be a "shelby gt". While its considered a 'clone' because it was done outside the original #s, its real enough to me.
Beyond that, this car has been absolutely dialed in. It just made its return back from the SCCA Solo Nationals where it took 1st place in F-Stock by a very healthy margin over some very serious drivers including 2nd place in a fully prepped 2012 5.0.

So, a Shelby GT clone (all the goodies) with 59k miles...SCCA prepped (includes $3k custom valved konis and more) with two sets of stock 18s, a set of stock gt 17s, a set of 19" drifts with brand new tires...oh and 6 sets of almost brand new Goodyear racing rubber. $17k.

Garage envy be gone!

Shelby GTs are eligible for F-stock. it ran on 18" goodyear rubber, shocks/struts are an allowable mod, and other than the front sway bar upgrade all else is stock

Re: my new....shelby?

Hey alludc,
Just pull off a couple of plug wires and you can stay on this forum with us.

You have a great Mustang there and I doubt if you will miss your Corvette at all.

Re: my new....shelby?

Awesome.

My thought is it is actually more of a real Shelby than even a GT500. The fact is, Almost all Shelby's never are touched by a single Shelby employee or see the inside of the Shelby facility. They are built by a team of people, none of which are owned by Shelby Motors. The GT500 is Built right at the same plant as all the other Mustangs in Flat Rock. Alliance Manufacturing, which also builds Mazdas.

Keep us posted.

But it's an all new engine so why base most of it off a previous design. That is confusing

Re: my new....shelby?

Well... engineering costs most likely. Part of a global platform that Ford is trying to reach on all its vehicles. Ford and Mazda has been using a form of this motor that is closely related for the better part of a decade but in different displacements.

The misconception here is the term "all new motor", it is an "all new motor" for the Mustang v6. That is what ford announced. They re-engineered a motor based off of the Duratec engine design. Still all in all 1000% better than the 4.0 it replaced.

Here is a paragraph from wiki. If you want to read the whole history of the Duratec motor you can do so here. Ford Duratec engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Duratec 37
The Duratec 37 3.7 L (3721 cc; 227 CID) V6 is another member of the Ford Cyclone engine family. The Duratec 37's additional displacement over the Duratec 35 is achieved through a 3 mm (0.1 in) increase in bore diameter which results in a 95.5 mm (3.76 in) bore. It is currently produced at Lima Engine in Lima, Ohio and Cleveland Engine in Cleveland, Ohio.
The engine was first introduced in the 2008 Mazda CX-9 under Mazda's MZI moniker and produced 273 hp (204 kW) at 6,250 rpm and 270 lb·ft (366 N·m) at 4,250 rpm.[8] The American assembled version seen in the 2009 Lincoln MKS produces 275 hp (205 kW) at 6,250 rpm and 276 lb·ft (374 N·m) at 4,250 rpm. A few days before the 2009 Los Angeles International Auto Show, Ford unveiled a new version of the Duratec 37 for the 2011 Mustang, making it the first Duratec-badged V6 used in a rear-wheel drive application since the Mondeo V6 in the Lincoln LS. The new version of the engine features Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT) and, thanks in part to the addition of this technology, makes 305 hp (227 kW) at 6,500 rpm and 280 lb·ft (380 N·m) at 4,250 rpm while delivering 31 mpg-US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg-imp) highway mileage in the Mustang.[9][10] This RWD Ti-VCT version has also since been added to the engine lineup of the F-150 pickup for 2011.

Thank you for the info on that. I've been wondering if they kinda pulled it of nowhere of kept upgrading it. My 3.8 pushed 190hp on a cold day and when I stepped into this new platform it was a whole different ball game. Plus the engine looked 100% different

Re: my new....shelby?

Man that vette is perfect...dont do it! Then again with the c7 coming out soon it will make you love yours a little less, whereas the s197s look pretty bad *** against the latest models if they are tastefully modified, which this shelby gt is, probably the cleanest looking one ive ever seen. Its not overdone like most stangs.

I think you're getting a good deal on it though. Plus, you could sell the 20 different sets of wheels you have a make a few $$ to put towards a supercharger! Can't go wrong with anything you choose though. Good luck!
