My 2013 has the V6 exhaust, 2.25 inches vs the 2.75 that is on the GT.
But when I do the A/B I am putting GT500 mufflers on it.

How's the sound? I'm looking to do this same setup.

For me..great. I am not a fan of the obnoxious loud mufflers, as I do a lot of highway miles from Orlando to Tampa Florida each week (about 600 miles per week). The idle has a nice rumble, cruising speed is quiet, but when you stomp, you'll hear it.

Perfect for my ears.

I should also note that the GT500 axle backs are heavier than the stock V6 ones. Not sure on the stock GT's, as I never handled a set of those.

So GT500 mufflers should give you better traction and balance.

Yeah I hate the sound of all the mufflers out for our sixxers. Too raspy sounding.

So what year are your mufflers?

I had GT mufflers on my 2013. I needed to get the pipe expanded. I guess it depends on the manufacture date maybe. BTW this was on a 2013 Performance Package.

The GT mufflers are heavy too. Heavier than the stock 3.7 mufflers.

I had a muffler shop cut off the back tubes from my stock V6 mufflers, then he cut off the back tubes of the GT500 mufflers, used an expansion tool to expand the V6 tubes to fit the back of the GT500 mufflers, and then they were a bolt on to the rest of the exhaust.

Here's the pick of the expanded part and its weld:

This is definately not the case with the GT500's. I too dislike a raspy sounding exhaust. Too much of that out there already. I guess Carroll Shelby felt the same way!

Is it safe to assume the 2012 GT500 exhausts will fit a 2013 V6 in a similar fashion that they fit your 2011?

I would say yes. I've read that some of the later model GT500 exhausts are quad tip; make sure the set you buy for your V6 are not quad tip, umless you plan to swap out your rear valance to allow for the larger required opening.

I ended up changing the lower valance of my 2011 V6 with that of a GT500 valance, it really makes for a sweet looking back end, and wraps nicely around the GT500 single tips.

What would be the difference in sound if you put stock GT mufflers on a v6 mustang? Would it be slightly louder since the GT's mufflers are more free flowing, or would it be basically the same as stock v6 mufflers?

They are larger. 1/4" I believe. A shop would have to modify the GT mufflers to fit the V6 system.

A shop cut my factory 2014 V6 mufflers close to the "can" with a sawzall, then cut the 14 GT take offs with about 3" of pipe left on it (found brand new drive home mileage only on Craigslist for $50). They loosened the clamps (did not remove) on the original over the axel pipe, wiggled it a bit and stuck the ends into the GT mufflers & welded them up. Hangers were exact match & fit fine. Showed the photo of the expanded pipe shown above, but they said wasn't necessary. Cost me $40.00 They have been on a little over a year, I like them, no rasp, no drone, tips are 3.5" & rolled. Not to much different sound, but I like them. Sold my v6 take offs for $25, so for $65.00 total I'm very happy.

Thanks for the info Shadetree43. That's what I'm thinking about getting done. If it sounds basically the same as the v6 mufflers thats fine with me. I would do it more for the look of the nicer rolled tips. But I'm glad to hear the GT's mufflers don't have drone.

Mine is a 14 and it has v6 mufflers. I had always heard they were diffrent and I know the performance pack came with gt suspension and such but not with the gt mufflers. I guess the way one could know is if the mufflers had those double tips the small v6 exhaust one and the shinier one on the outside. Does the gt exhaust sound louder than the v6 on a 6 because it could make a great alternative for someone who's looking for a bit louder or deeper exhaust tone but doesn't want something as loud as a roush.

Also it would probably be a surprise to someone who bought a v6 muffler and then the pipe was too big

The difference is the auto has the little pipe on the inside and the manual mufflers are louder.
Performance Package has a mixture of SVT and Shelby parts.
