Mustangs is unknown around these parts
So I'm planning to pull the trigger on some 3.55 gears from previous 2.73 ones which will be a lot of fun, and I'll obviously need to get a tune. Planning on a Bama tune and I'm just curious does anyone have an auto with a tune and have noticed what happens to the grade assist button on the 2011s. The 12s have a sport mode and I've heard that the 11s grade assist is close to the same thing. So what happens to it?

Had an idea. I wish you could use the program of that grade assist and make it hold a tune, so you could make a switchable tune button. I know some company back in the day made these switchable tunes for BMWs, so cool to have that especially on a newer car. What do you guys think? Have I rambled on too much

The switchable tune is not a thing of the past I don't think. I had a cobalt SS with a switchable tune that would allow me to drive around at a safe turbo psi then I could kick it up by hitting my cruse control button that basically changed from my street tune to a more aggressive one. I think you have a good idea but you would need someone with in depth knowledge of mustang tuning to know if it could be done. It would come down to what the computer did when hit with new parameters while running. Maybe call the Bama guys, I know they have a number that you can call and ask about stuff like this.

13s have a Sport Mode. 11s and 12s have grade assist which is basically the same thing.

Mustangs,

These guys have definitely pointed you in the right direction. The Grade assist is just about the same thing as Sport mode with a few less features. Unfortunately we can't actually program a tune to this button as of now. Thank you for the suggestion though and I'll definitely send this over to the Bama team to see if they can work on something like this or have something in the works!

Let me know if I can be of any assistance with the tune in general! Our Bama Performance tuning specialists are here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and Saturday 9AM-5:30PM EST. You can hit them up directly at 888.226.9764 and they'll get you squared away!

Excellent Dan
When the 13 is in Sport Mode and you don't use +\- isnt the only difference between that and grade assist be that Sport Mode shifts to 6th gear and grade assist locks out 6th?
Thanks

from what I have read, you have that correct.

I also wanted to add that the Cobalt tune that I had was not released until many years after the introduction of the car.

With my BAMA 87 street tune, my sport mode downshifts aggressively when under hard breaking and holds revs for longer than normal drive. It's actually quite sporty in sport mode.

Don't mean to steal thread from OP, but do you have to switch tunes back to stock before putting on a different tune? Like running 93 Hybrid right now and want to change to 87 Street, so before going 87 do I need to return car back to stock?

They say to do that. But to be honest I've changed tunes probably 20 times and never tuned back to stock and have had no problems.

It wouldn't let me go straight to another tune, I had to return to stock first.

As long as the tune is loaded on the tuner already u won't have a problem but if u have to plug it in to the computer to load new tunes they recommend to make sure ur car is returned to stock!

Sport mode run on automatic locks out 6th gear. It only shifts up to 5th, unless you run it in manual sport mode and shift for yourself by hitting the +/- button. But if you just put it in sport mode and leave it alone it takes away overdrive (6) as it shifts up and down.

Thanks Jim. I finally figured this out.
