how do i turn off my drl's??? (daytime running lights)

Hey, I am trying to figure out how to turn off my daytime running lights on my 2010 v6 premium... I have had them since I got the car. Neither the car nor I is from Canada.. Was wondering if someone knew how to turn them off. thanks

did you try useing a bigger hammer?......

ok, seriously now. I do not believe there is a way to just turn them off unfortunately. I did some looking around and reading and came up with this answer...... Ford has been installing DRL capability in all its mustangs since the early 90's. This is because it was not cost efficient to produce a separate "smart junction box" for U.S. and Canadian mustangs that are required to have DRL's. Therefore, you should be able to turn your DRL's off by manipulating the smart junction box. Unfortunately, there is some arguing about whether this is a physical change (cutting or swapping wires) or a simple programing change. I would contact a ford dealer and ask if you could have your DRL's deactivated via programing. If they say no then you know your going to have to find a wiring schematic for the smart junction box and make the change there. If they say yes then your probably going to have to get them to do it via a programmer.

Note that thin information came from a variety of sources, including forum's. Therefore I can not 100% guarantee that all this info is correct. however, contacting a dealer and asking the question is most definitely the firs step and will give you a big clue.

Hope this helps, good luck.

I've asked three dealers about deactivating the DRLs that somehow were activated when I had my smart junction box replaced a few years ago on my 2005 mustang and no luck so far. That makes me wager it will involve wiring... but I'd love to know for sure

Ask White Lightning he went through this. The US Fleet Models and Canadian models have been receiving DRLs for a while

Ok. Here I go. I have DRL's. hate them. I asked my hometown dealer to deactivate them. Thy wanted almost $300 my car was designed for rental purposes and all rentals have them I believe. I gave them their money and they said they couldn't do it and didn't know how to.

It's a $100 charge extra to get them. So, if they are charging then it can be taken out. I've heard of getting a new SJB but I'm not in the market for that stupid crap on a new car. It's not wires I don't believe, nor a legit fuse like sn95's. I just upgraded my bulbs to a sylvania silver star ultra (gold tip h13) so they burn white and not a crappy yellow.

If you mess with the SJB then you could really mess up your car to the point where the thing won't even start. So, certain dealers can do it if someone knows what's up, but most don't. Oh and as far as someone seeing you, excuse this but that's bull****. Since the turn signals and lights are in the same housing and the inside, the blinker gets blocked out by the light in the day time so no one can really see when I turn. Plus I have a white car, if you can't see that, you don't even need to be able to drive. And at night, if they can't see a white like HID bulb then you also shouldn't be driving.

Thanks there might be a couple dealerships in the state I haven't called yet so it is probably worth a try after New Years. For now I'll just have to go back to pulling up my parking brake a bit whenever I'm parked and idling at least they go off then lol.

I have a 12. They run similar wirings but the drive train is different. What lights are your DRL's, the fogs or headlamps.

Same as me. When I get my GT fogs and bumper I'm hoping tht since I can't get them removed then I can get them transferred into the fogs and not the headlights

To get rid of mine I'll have to buy HID from ford and have them install them. Or just pay $1,200. It's funny, they can turn it on free of charge but taking it off requires a whole reset and reprogram of the SJB.

The HID idea is my doings. As no one can do it but ford. And to get those to work you gotta disable the DRL. And that's nearly $1000 for the lights and who knows how much for the install.

But I was quoted by the dealer I bought it from to be $1200. Everywhere else looked at me like a satan child and said no immediately. They told me the other way is replace the SJB and reflash it but make sure it doesn't have the DRL trigger turned on.

I don't wanna be that guy but with this kinda stuff no one has done it. The only way to find out is pull them out and compare them. But I wouldn't know if that would lock the car up by doing so.

It's not a fuse on sn-95's. I have a 94 from Canada and it HAD drl's. The fuse also runs the horn and a slew of important things. When I tell you I searched the web for hours before I found a answer I'm not lying. There is a module in my bumper that the Drl's share with the convertible. So me not knowing I pulled the harness out of the module. Next time I to put the top down it won't work. I found out I had to cut the green wire on my harness and plug it back into the module. Bam no more drl's. I think drl's are a stupid ugly waste of money that shouldn't be an option in America. If people want to be seen in broad daylight o to auto zone and spend your $300 on strobe lights you big Pansy rental company's.
