Use a full synthetic, and send the oil samples to a lab for testing. You will discover that the oil will last longer than the time needed as most oils need to be changed every 6 months for the anti-oxidizers to be valid. If you are commuting and putting over 15K miles every 6 months, then the testing is the way to go. I have been chief engineer on large locomotive style engines all the way down to single cylinder Briggs and Strattons, the results stay the same. Bottom line, the oil is cheaper over the life of any engine, so change often, with good quality filtration. If you can detect a smoother running engine, the life of the engine will be extended. Check the spark plugs for carbon deposits, stay on top of the compression checks, and keep the oil test reports for comparison and early detection of excessive engine wear.
