A tune will, most other things like headers and cold air intake will improve torque but it will usually raise the power band several hundred rpm

The only way to increase torque is to put a lower gear in it. Aside from that, add a turbo or supercharger which increases everything.

You want to go to a larger number to increase torque and acceleration. Stock is either 2.73 or 3.31 depending on your build. Most go with 3.73s.

I knw it feels like that and in the end It will give him better response than a tb would trust me when I went with 4.10s It felt so much quicker and faster off the start. But thinking a tb will be a better improvement than gears would is just nonsense

I love the acceleration and hate my mpg lol but yea TB is honestly a complete waste of time unless ur going FI. No one said a TB is better than Gears tho.

The gears will make your rpms be higher while going faster. For instance where you used to be at 1700 rpms crusing at 65 down the highway, you would be at 2300 rpms after gears. Thats just a example, no actual numbers. But yes you will lose mpg more than likely.

Gears are going to get you through your power band quicker. They will make a huge difference. 3:55 gears on your v6 will make a huge improvement. It will feel like you have a different car. Your hitting your power band faster.
Unless you plan on buying way better tires don't go with 3:73 gears. Way to to much gear for the stock tires on the v6. You will just spin like a mad dog. May look cool but if the goal for you to move quicker and forward then I would go with 3:55

As a comparison, GT owners w/ 3.31s report 18-20 mpgs while I get 12-13.5 w/ 3.73s. If you can consistently drive below 2K RPMs youll do better. I cannot do this, myself, b/c the car is too much fun to granny around.

Does it increase engine output? No. It's a torque multiplier though and it will give him the kick in the pants he's looking for. Torque is one of those things you can't easily fix. Only two things, which don't exist for this car, could increase torque without a power adder: intake manifold and cams.
I'll elaborate... Switching to anything that makes the engine breath better (headers, exhaust, intake, tb) all result in a higher hp and shift to higher RPM for torque. This would actually make you lose low end power. Torque is the hardest thing to get in an engine and the main reason "no replacement for displacement" will never go away.

Adding a larger TB should have shifted the powerband higher rather than lower. Until I see dynos by someone besides BBK, I'm calling shenanigans.

3:55 gears on the v6 11 plus should give you the throw back in the seat feeling one may be looking for. It would rock with a 305 HP, 280 torque vehicle.

I upgraded my stock throttle body with the BBK before the 3.73 gears. Yeah it was an expensive upgrade but it was an easy install. Gears where less expensive but install cost alot.
The throttle body along with a cai made a noticible difference in throttle response. Adding the 3.73 gears topped it all off |
