Stock gear ratios

Okay sooooo I bought a BAMA tuner a while back ago and realized my spedometer was off, after calling am they said my gear ratios had to be different then stock. Long story short, right after that we got our first snow and she's been in storage since, I'm gearing up to get her out and I'm wondering if anyone with the 6 premium package knows the gear ratios....? I need to get this tune right! Help...?

Look on the door sticker on the drivers side

The Ford axle ratio codes are:

BB - 3.73 ratio
CC - 2.73 ratio
DD - 3.55 ratio
GG - 3.31 ratio
YY - 3.15 ratio

I hope this helps
My 2012 automatic came with "CC" which is 2.73 ratio.

Manual and auto trans have no correlation to the gear ratio. I have a manual that came with 3.31.

How do they determine what gears go in each car then?

....to the OP, did you buy the car new or used? If used then it could have just about anything back there. Some mechanics will put some info on part of your rear diff. Go crawl under that thing and look for a sticker or writing. If no luck then the sticker in the drivers door jam will tell you what it came with from the factory if you use the info above.

The default option and most common for manual and auto transmissions are 2.73. If you get the performance package or the stand alone upgraded gears option(what I got) it will be 3.31. I wasted the money since I'm upgrading to 3.73s anyway but it's a sunk cost so oh well.

Yes that is true. I don't know where people get this false info from.

No....manual can come with 3.31 and auto can come with 2.73. The 2.73 are what come standard with the 2011+ V6. Manual or auto. To get 3.31 you have to get it as an extra option or get the performance package.

It's because of the Ford Specs PDF file that someone posted a while back that listed the V6 auto as having a 3.31 gear ratio, which is actually just a stand alone option, not standard. It got my hopes up at one point until I saw the 2.73 sticker on my rear diff cover haha

Every auto has 2.73 unless performance package or added on by demand.

My 2010 has 3.31 Conventional, so maybe it's for the 2011 models and up?

Yes they treat the 2011s and up completely different because of the gas mileage they were going for. EPA 16-24 mileage for 2010 and 210 hp. EPA 20-31milage for 2011 and 305 hp.

All cars have 2.73s, unless they were ordered with 3.31s ($400 stand-alone option) or ordered with the Performance Pack.

Either punch your VIN in the window sticker URLs for Ford vehicles or read the sticker on the driver's side door jamb looking for the option codes listed above.

And they can not tell off of your computer code, my Stock gears are 3.31's so I had to get a second set of tunes since my speedo was way off with the 2.73 gear tune. On a side note the MPG by the computer was almost 34 MPG

ashpow24,

The best way to figure out your gear ratio is to check the driveshaft rotation. Since the gears could have been changed to aftermarket ratios.

Lift the rear end of the car (or entire car) and support it with jackstands and a floor jack. Have a buddy rotate the rear wheel while you're underneath looking at the driveshaft. Find a starting point on the wheel and driveshaft and count the rotations of the driveshaft, per a single rotation of the rear wheel. Then, you'll have the right ratio for Bama to correct your speedometer.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Shane

Thanks Shane! The guys at AM were very helpful, i just had to store my car before I had a chance to fix the tuner, so I needed a refresher. Hopefully in 2-3 weeks ill have her out of storage so id like to have it fixed by then!

That's good to hear! I'm sure the Bama Team will have you squared away in no time. I'm also dying for Spring to get here and for all the sports cars to come back on the roads!

Don't know what year your car is but on the 2011-2013 the 3.31 Axle code is GG, and that was the only other option from Ford.
If it was Changed to something other than stock do as Shane said.

Mind you this is only if Stock
