I got mine at home hardware. 20$ (canada) also homedepot has it. I just plasti dipped the Chrome part around the front grille. It comes out pretty thick though, very blotchy. It didn't come out like spray paint that I thought it would. Sorry I have no pics yet.

For this reason, I use Krylon's Black Fusion spray can paint, made for plastics on parts like this. Provides for a much better, smooth result.

I use a pre- cleaner (also available in spray can) to get any minute grease or oils off to get the best "paint stick", then a plastic primer (also available in spray can). I've had excellent results on all automotive plastics with this.

Vinyl paints also work excellent for plastics, as they have a flex agent in them.

The krylon black is what I actually used first a couple of months ago, it says no primer required on the can which was also the nice thing about it. But it started to chip away, maybe it didn't like the extreme cold we had this winter? I but 5 coats on it and it looked excellent! I hope the plasti dip stays on for the most part but I didn't get nearly as nice as a finish with it. Still not bad. No pics of it yet, the pic is with krylon.

Looks good shunc!

I'm curious how a lot of these dips would come out with the metallizer. Im hesitant to have a lot of matte emblems/wheels if my black car is going to have more of a shine to it when waxed.

Not the "black" plasti dip, if "smoke" is matte black then yes.

Nice man. I'm looking at probably doing pony emblems / rims and maybe some small decals/hash marks or something to make the car slightly unique. I just want to make sure I dont overdue the dipping cause it detracts very quickly imo.

Yep, thats my favorite part. Its the safest appearance mod I can do myself haha cause I can just peel it off.

Trying to figure out what second tone color I want to use on my stang so its not ALL black. I was thinking a nice charcoal to keep it subtle but unique. Im not too into the bright, loud colors.

Or white on black is pretty slick.

Throw up some pics when you remount the grill/chin!

Are those stock dipped rims? They look awesome if so, and awesome if not heh

I like the stripes on the side, and they look like they have a white outline?? I can imagine that wasn't too easy lol Thats very similar to what I have in mind, once I figure out a color I'd like to go with my black paint.

Im thinking of dipping my wheels once I pick up my black 14' this weekend but I dont think black will be the look I want.

Any suggestions on a cool charcoal, or metallic color that plasti dip has ?

You can use the smoke and like zoom said its a shading kind of spray. The more you spray the darker it is.once you get to the shade you want then you can use their metalizer to give it a sparkle

Yeah I like that idea. I dont want the true black on black, its been done far too many times. I want a subtle two tone, maybe some decals/dipped hash marks too.

Going to give that a shot! We are getting our stuff from dipyourcar it seems?

Sounds good. And yea black on black is great but sometimes two tone is more unique. Check their entire lineup. Then you can decide but the smoke is a good way to go. Any questions feel free to ask. There's tons of ppl who have done it on here including me.lol

Ok I do a lot of plastidip as you can see from my pictures. The reason it sometimes comes out thick and uneven is because the can is way to cold. Use a hair dryer to heat and and shake it until it is evenly warm not just the can. Also do a thin light tack coat of only 50% visibility so it will adhere better. Hope this helps.

Yeah, the black on black isnt bad. I just like to be unique, and Ive seen a few black on black around Jersey. I might also do the sides of the center hood elevation. Sort of how JNigus has it on his hood. With a silver or charcoal that matches the rims.

Pretty excited to start dipping when I get my car, seems like a safe way to have fun and get my feet wet in the mod world.
