Swapping cold air intakes.

I am going to change from my BBK cold air intake to a different one but cannot decide between the air raid or the JLT. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I have the plain black JLT it is real nice the sound from under the hood is intoxicating. Matched up with a tune it gives real nice gains.

Steeda, end of story.
Plus it requires a tune, so you'll get something out of it!

I've heard nothing but good things about the JLT. I have one on my '06 GT and love it.

No tune, no steeda. I tried to run mine before I installed my tuner and it would barely idle. Lol

BBK looks a lot like the JLT. I use a C&L and in my opinion BBK, JLT and C&L work the best because they have 'straight' tubes for the air flow. They don't look as nice as the ones with the bends on the tubes but they have to work better IMO. Just saying................................

For vast performance gains, my recommendation would be a steeda/tune. If you're not in the market for dropping $700 then JLT is looking like a nice alternative.

Airaid here

I installed the Airaid because no tune is needed right away. You can put it on and enjoy the responsiveness and sound it provides without messing with the warranty. It also looks great. You can do a tune later down the road if you really want more power.

I got mine from American Muscle and with the Evolution discount it was $253.00 at my front door.

If you already have a CAI, thn why don't you wait until you're ready for a tune? Most CAIs don't really do much, especially without a tune.

If u thin about it a non tune requires gives u about 15hp..adding a tune brings it to 20hp & a tune required gives about 20hp so u get the same gains from both!

All I know for sure is this:

My 3.7 V6 is a lot more responsive with the Airaid CAI installed. I do not have a tune at all. Before installing the CAI I never would have believed I would feel any difference in how my engine felt. The throttle response is very snappy now compared to the flatness it had before. I can't imagine how good it would improve with a proper tune.

I swear i thought I read if the intake doesnt require a tune, than it is not improving on the stock intake.

It definitely does. The stock intake is in a box and a flat style filter so its about as restrictive as you can get and the intake tube is about an inch smaller. With an aftermarket intake you get a 3 inch inlet tube and a cone style filter with an open top so it sucks in more air. More air more power

No problem on idle with a CAI and no tune??

Also, anyone familiar with removing the front grille on the 2011-2014 v6s? Ive read it pulls out, but Im going to be pissed if I break a clip and cant put it back in that way lol

Easiest way is to take a flat head screwdriver and pop them out that way eventually it will come out on its own.

check the video on AM
The intake tubes for the CAI that don't require a tune are the same size as stock.

It's the open element vs closed box that makes the difference.
