Worse than this?? I've had two. Insurance covered the first. Second I paid for repairs. Sucks knowing you have 1500 in repairs that could have been mods. And I deff know the feeling. Sorry for you luck bro.

I got hit by car doors twice. First time the passenger front wheel arch was dinged to hell. Second time the lower half of my drivers door was knocked in.
Maaco wanted $800 plus both times. I went to a local place & they charged me $400.
Most places will charge alot less then if you dont go the insurance route.

I had a 500 deductible but I got it fixed by the best in town. They charged the State Farm right under 6000. So it was a good deal in my book.

Only way to know is to take the Mustang to a body shop (or two) and get repair estimates. Based on your deductible, driving record, and previous claims, you can determine if you will want to make a claim for repairs. Some insurance companies have the "first accident forgiveness" deal, where your rates don't go up on a first claim.

Go get estimates first, then call and talk to your insurance agent.

More than likely. They should be able to tell you what it'll go up too.

That's not all that bad in the scheme of things. I'm guesstimating about 400 using traditional dent repair, then paint another 100-150 paint I'd say $600 or less otd.

They should color match it to your car so you shouldn't even be able to tell it was replaced.

These are questions that now have to be answered by the OP and his insurance agent. Ask them (if you make a claim) if the rates will go up. How much is the repair going to be? Have you got esimates yet?

Time for some calling and footwork.

Anytime a police report or accident report is made your insurance rates increase whether they pay to fix it or not. Might as well let them fix it.

Really? In this case, he hit the mailbox/pole. If he gets a report done up by the police and does not make a claim, why would they raise his rates? seeing as how another party was not involved (unless the owner of the mailbox makes a claim), I'd think the insurance company would ignore the situation, as no money is out of their pocket.

On the other hand, maybe they see the driver now as a risk?

It shows up as an at fault accident when they run your report.

My wife backed into another lady who was backing out of a parking spot. Since they were both backing up fault was split. Father in law refused to let insurance pay repairs so no claim was made from either party. It just dropped off my wife's record this past year and the surcharge on the premium went away. I fixed the damage myself (bumper and tail light).

Welcome to the insurance game, it's brutal.

Your driving record does not specify small or big accident, just shows an accident. If you file a claim you get an additional surcharge based on the amount of loss. Same way with tickets. They categorize them (i.e. 1-10, 10-15, 15-20 etc) and surcharge is based on which level it falls into.

One more piece of insurance advice. Be careful what you say on the phone, especially if speaking to someone other than your actual agent. Phone calls are recorded and notes are made to your account based on your conversation.
If you tell the person on the phone you are debating filing any loss or that you simply had a small accident they can and most likely raise your premium.

Know your agent, speak with them each renewal to confirm your coverage limits and deductables. They are not your friend but if you are on a good basis with your agent you can probably get advice without being screwed.
