Warranty - One Shock?

When rotating the tires this weekend I saw that the passenger rear shock needed to be replaced. So I just got a call from the service writer and he says they are only going to replace the bad shock because the car only has 21K miles. (It's also only 9 months old).

This bugs me, but am I just being too anal?

He will charge me about $80.00 if I want the other one done. And this bugs me too.

I would just let him replace the one. As long as it is the same make and model you should be fine

Let them replace just the one, its not a problem, I had mine replaced right around the same mileage and I couldn't tell a difference from one being older than the other. Same thing happened to me, passenger rear shock was leaking

IMO $80 is worth peace of mind. 21k is enough to loosen your shocks up, so wearing out unevenly will cause that warranty part to wear a lot faster. Then you will be looking at replacing both a lot sooner than you should have to. I've had it happen to me. A lot more miles on them, but the situation still the same. Don't take my word for it, but it is something to think about

No problems with one shock being replaced.

At 21,000 there is hardly any wear at all on the other three shocks. get it replaced and drive on.

Replace the other one yourself. Shocks are easy to do, especially the rears.

Hi Bucko

He will be fine just having them replace the one shock, At 75,000 miles he should be replacing them all. One of his was leaking and never was detected until he pulled the wheel off. I have replaced one shock before and had no problems. The $80.00 the dealer wants for another shock will hurt worse then replacing only one shock.
