Open headers

I know a lot of people that run open headers (open after header not before) and its insanely loud. I know you lose back pressure an it "messes up intake valves". But most mechanics say it doenst mess them up unless the header is completely off the engine.. Is this true. And also is loss of back pressure just losing your low end torque? Just curious.

If your car was archaic(obd1) then you would have no problems at all and pick up a lot of torque. Your car will lose torque because you're car is programmed for that exhaust system, any radical changes will require it to be tuned to see the benefits.

I've never heard of that. But I met this guy at the dealership a while back, he had an 07 GT and it sounded like a classic beast. he told me his secret was the titanium headers ( which he said were illegal in the U.S.) and I think he said Bassani exhaust. Has anybody heard of titanium headers?

I found some jba stainless steel titanium ceramic coated LT's for 1100....

Street car??????

Don't do it. You will lose your low end torque and probably start really hating your Mustang. Open headers are great at the top RPM but that don't do you much good on the street.
Put on a set of headers, Some High Flow Cat's and a good X pipe and a good set of performance mufflers and a good CAI along with A nice set of lower ratio gears and a good 93 octane tune. Now you are doing something if you really want performance.

All it takes is a little $$$$ to get that V6 running extremely quick and still be a very great all around street car with cheap insurance and decent MPG.

Of course it won't stop there. Next you will want lowering springs and a bunch of suspension parts. Then Fat wheels and tires, A big brake set-up.

I could go on & on but I'll let someone else add what you will want next.

Well I have shot intake valves. I ran manifolds a few days lol me being a ****** and sound hungry.

I'm pretty sure open headers won't hurt your engine. I do know this: I have BBK long tubes, BBK catted shorty X-Pipe with Magnaflow 'street series' axlebacks. I bought some Magnaflow 'Competition' (muffler delete) axlebacks. I ran them for a month and had to reinstall my street series because i lost so much 'low end' torque with the Competitions. There are lots of hills in East Tennessee, i need all the low end torque i can get .

I was wondering is the low end torque loss made up for in the high rpm range of our 3.7 engines?

This sounds like a load of BS. Why would titanium headers be illegal in the US? They are prohibitively expensive but not illegal

That's what I figured, I don't see why it would be illegal. Do they make illegal parts for mustangs?

I just have an 05 GT. and I have cutouts after the headers and no cats. I can't tell any difference at all between closed and open.

Titanium is just a material they are made from.

Titanium is super light and strong. Very expensive material and I really don't know or can not tell you if they will hold up better then Aluminum headers which are also light. You can get either the Titanium or the Aluminum headers ceramic coated or Porcelain coated for endurance . It depends if you really want to spend a lot of $$$$ on them.

Go to Google and type in Titanium headers for a lot of information and who sells them.
