Question about front bumper swap

When I swap my v6 front bumper to a gt front bumper do I need to swap out the lower air dam as well. This is the black plastic piece on the bottom that you have to take off to remove the bumper.

That's a rock guard actually. And no you don't. But most are ruined when running over rabbits or small game. Least mine was. The v6 and GT use the same parts and hardware.

If by lower air dam you mean the flat vertical lip, then no, as that is part of the lower engine cover.

I made the swap from a 2011 V6 bumper cover to a 2011GT bumper cover to gain the fog lights in the upper grill. Here is what it requires, and what you will need to complete the swap:

1) The 2011 to 2014 bumper cover. There are differences in these bumper covers in these years! The 2013's and up are the same for V6 and GT now. I used a 2011 GT grill for my 2011 V6 swap. By now you know the GT grills do not fit into the V6 bumper covers unless you are doing a 2013 and up bumper cover swap, as they are the same (V6/GT). These are the California Special type bumper covers that Ford now uses on all models beginning in 2013.

2) Upper center grill. If you are going to use the GT fog lights, and have factory V6 fog lights, the wired bulb ends have to be changed. The factory V6 fog light bulbs are H11's, and the factory GT fogs are H10's; the bulb connectors between these two are different. You can buy H10 ends off of the web for about 10 bucks (you splice), or you can buy H11 to H10 adaptors (plug and play) for about 25 bucks.

3) Lower grill. The V6 lower grill does not fit the GT bumper cover. You'll need a GT lower grill.

4) The upper radiator cover will need to have the underside alignment plastic trimed in order for it to sit flat. You'll see what I mean when you lay it down and attempt to install the plastic plugs that hold it in place. A simple set of snips, or a dremmel will fix this in 5 minutes.

After my son painted my used GT bumper cover, the removal/install took about 2 to 3 hours. In all, I had about 300 bucks invested. The GT bumper cover was purchased used off of Ebay for $199.00. Check them out carfully! Get one that does not have any splits/rips/ or tears. Scrathes in paint are easily taken car of with prep and paint, but reparing plastic tears and/or rips is time consuming and will cost.

The lower grill cost me 99 cents, plus 15 bucks shipping! It was a take-off sold on ebay. I was the only bidder! The upper grill, surround and fog light assemblies were just under a hundred.

Do it. You won't regret the light output. Then again I have the best halogen bulbs in all my lights

My bumper is quite partial to possums haha. I've hit two recently. Luckily no damage.
