Bama Tune and Airraid CAI

My first performance mod to my car, I have been running the 93 octane race tune and it has really made a difference in throttle response. Tried the 93 performance tune also, about the same as the race tune but the race tune seems just slightly better for what I am after. Was a little concerned that it would kill my gas mileage but so far it really hasn't. Saving for exhaust now...lol

Thanks Dan, I am very happy with the tune and CAI combo. It was my fault but when I got it speed odometer was way off..lol I bought the car used and did not realize it had the performance package until after I ordered the tune.

So I install it, and take off for a test drive and at least according to the speed odometer I was going 90 mph in 3rd gear...I was extremely happy..while I thinking wow they made my car a monster..lol

I did however figure out after it just seeming like something was off that I needed to make some adjustments. So after adjusting the gear ratio and the tire size I have it figured out now. Checked the speed with a GPS and it is right now.

I will give you guys a call for help with the exhaust, just gotta save a little $$ first.

How do u know the fitment is better?? I don't think it's the CAI but more that the cover is not meant for automatics. U have an auto right?? Well that just my opinion though.

Because the lack of curvature on the intake, my automatic inline hose is pressed up against my cover. With the Airraid, that's a non issue. I know it's not a big deal, but it would be added peace of mind

That's b/c that cover is meant for manual cars only b/c they don't require that hose that's pressed up but if the airraid will fix that then awesome!

The cover has to be slightly modified even for the airraid cai. Don't know how the others fit, but I would guess they might have to be modded to.

Did you buy it new? There is some thought that the engine runs cooler without them..I really can't see it making a huge difference though. Was just thinking maybe the previous owner took it off if you got it used.

If you bought it new than no idea..

Only the perf pack/manual trans combo comes with the engine cover. Doesn't fit on the automatics, you'd have to do a bit of modifying to it.

I am looking to get my first performance tune, which would give best feedback on throttle and horsepower/torque?

You do have to notch the engine cover-it is EASY

I have the Airaid and the engine cover on my 3.7 Automatic. All you need to do is cut enough of the engine cover away to clear the hose. It is easy with just a pair of scissors. The engine cover is made of soft foam rubber and easy to cut.

As far as causing your engine to run hot. I don't think so.

The Performance package on the Automatics did not come with the engine cover. Only the Manuals have it from the factory. My guess is Ford did not think a lot of the performance packages would be sold with the Automatic and just opted to leave it off instead of tooling for a separate one that fits over the hose.

Unless I pointed out to you that the engine cover is notched you would never know.

Ronnie

I am extremely happy with the Airraid/Bama combo. Stock the car was kinda lazy until I hit 3k rpm then it came to life. Now it is there almost immediately, throttle response is greatly improved. Horsepower/torque...I honestly have no idea where it is at without putting it on a dyno. I know it helped it, just not sure how much.

Hi Sarge

If you think it runs good now, Just wait until you change the Mufflers to let that engine breath better. It will SCREAM.

Any Mufflers you decide will be better then the stock Ford one's. Go to the Borla web site and listen to the video's of their different one's before you make your purchase. They all put out the same great performance but they all have a different sound level. It depends if you want to listen to your radio or if you just want a headache.

I personally like the sound of my Magnaflow streets due to the nice deep rumble and lower sound level they put out. It is a personal choice of what you your self likes. Go to some car shows and listen to some different Mustangs that have put on aftermarket mufflers. Don't listen to a GT and think your 3.7 will sound as good with that particular muffler. Listen to a 3.7 V6 if you can find one. The closest I have found to a V8 sound is the Magnaflow streets but still not exactly like it. Just close.

Link to Borla compare site>>

Watch the Video

Ronnie
