Keeping Antenna Off

There have been many discussions here about those who like and dislike the way the antenna placement/size/etc was placed.

I don't personally love it, but not enough to do something drastic like a full on antenna delete.

I never listen to the normal radio, but instead either Satellite, CD's, or from my iPhone using either bluetooth or the usb plug.

Since I never use the antenna and simply screws on and off (for removal during car washes, etc) do you think it would be a "problem" to keep it off?

Since you remove it to go thru a car wash it looks like water going in the hole is not a problem, but with it removed for long periods of time there is the possibility of dust/dirt getting in.

Thoughts?

Your satellite radio is on the little hub on the trunk i believe. I flew a toms and American flag on my antenna for a month maybe lol no harm done.

My satellite radio was put in by the dealer the week after I purchased the car (they had told me it had it, but it didn't, so they paid to put it in)
So mine has a little box just above the windshield.

I am just curious about the standard AM/FM radio antenna

kdbdallas,

There shouldn't be any issues with removing it for now at least. I would try to find a cap that can screw onto the threads and help prevent them from corroding. Otherwise, you'll be fine!

If you run without long term I would unplug the connector to it in the trunk so it's module is not powered up.

Is this shown in the manual or anywhere else so I can make sure I am messing with the correct stuff?

I don't think anybody even notices a car antenna.

Probably the only person in the world that notices your antenna is you. Most people look at a car and there are certain things like the windshield wipers, radio antenna, door handles that just don't really register in the human brain because they are so used to seeing them.

They focus on the whole car and either like it or don't like it.

It won't be noticed if it is there but take it off and people will sure notice that something is missing that is supposed to be there.

A lot of cars these days don't have a visible antenna. My wife's Camry Hybrid one is not visible at all

I'm not a fan of our antenna either. Its much better than having it on the front of the car but maybe they should have integrated it into the rear window.

It don't bother me at all.

It is a good place to put my Daytona Mustang Club flag onto at car shows. It works great at keeping my car cover from sliding around when I'm putting it on.

I just slide the cover onto the antenna first

I agree Ronnie. And these are Retro cars. The antenna placement and length fit the lines perfectly. Maybe the non retro 2015 will have no visible antenna so that it will make the Europeans happy. Those little stubby antennas to me look like someone cut the tail off of a stallion.

Not sure but just pop the trunk and look at the base of the antennae inside the trunk. Connector with small blue wire and larger black. Small blue is 12v for the small module at base of antenna, larger black is the antenna coax. Both in same connector and easy to unplug.

Should I unplug both?

Unfortunately, we don't have any caps like this available. I'm sure you could find something online though. Google is your best friend for a situation like this lol.

So I owned a new edge and it had a 3 foot antenna. I live my antenna due to it being small from the get go. I can understand if it was like a cb radio antenna but this thing is like 10 inches max.

I believe Cj or late model has a black one.

I think it's the perfect length. I just want a silver one.
