Question 2013 V6 Check Engine Light Flashing

So I just purchased a one-owner 2013 V6 Premium with leather and the shaker sound system and I LOVE it. It only has about 20,000 miles on it and drives great... so far.

Yesterday I was taking someone for a ride and I put it into sport shift mode and did 0-50 letting it automatically shift or by pumping the gas at about 6k RPMs. Well after the shift into third gear all of a sudden the check engine light starts flashing. It threw me because I'm used to flashing CELs meaning engine damage. I pulled over and turned it off and back on and it was fine.

This has happened 3 or 4 times now, 3 of them I know where in sport shift mode, though I'm pretty sure the 4th one was also. They've happened at different speeds and different gears. The last time I was ready, and I ran a vehicle health report and looked at the information system check in the dashboard control center and everything came back OK - WHILE the CEL was flashing...

Also, the last time it happened, I kept driving it and noticed lack of power when I pressed the gas. After about 30 seconds it went off and I was able to resume driving. This is what it has been doing.

-----------------------------------------------

Now, I've researched this quite a bit, and I've found SEVERAL posts that sound exactly like this issue. From everything I'm reading, the issues I'm reading about are a result of misfires. Apparently, there's a TSB out about it and I just need, what, a crank shaft retiming and a PCM reflash? The only problem I have is that EVERYTHING I've found is for the GT. I found literally more than a dozen posts about this and I did all the research, but I have not been able to find even One post about the V6 on any forum.

My question is, does this sound similar to the problem that the V8s are having and if so, has anyone heard about this happening with the V6? Since the computer doesn't store codes for 15 second flashes and since vehicle health reports are coming back clean, I don't have much to go on here, and I know if I go to the dealership, they won't be able to replicate it and will tell me everything's fine. Just trying to figure out what to do here.

Thanks,

If you don't have a code reader, take it to one of the chain (Advance Auto Parts, etc.) parts store and they will see if and what code you have, for 'free'. Maybe there is a code. Its worth a shot.

Thanks, I'm very familiar and will probably head in tomorrow to have it checked. From what I'm reading about similar flashing CELs on the V8s is that when it's only the temporary flashing for 15-30 seconds, it doesn't store the codes? It's worth a shot anyway.

I'm just hesitant to take it into the ford dealership and have them check for the misfire issues since that TSB is only for the V8...

I have a 2012 v6 and I had the light come on, lost acceloration and code reset with shutting the car off. Happened a few times. Ford got it to happen and found it was the TB.

Maybe same prob ur having. Idk

Thanks for that, do you know if there was a TSB for this problem? The only TSB on the issue that I can find is TSB 13-1-11 which clearly says it's related to 5.0L V8 manual transmissions only, but it describes my issue perfectly.

Another possibility (which relates to the throttle body incidentally) is I was checking the air filter tonight after reading some more online and found it to be really dirty... in theory, could a dirty air filter cause the issues I've described? I'm also considering replacing the spark plugs, however I don't think that'll be very easy by looking at the engine so it may be something I have ford do.

Will do. I just bought an Airaid Cold Air Intake and have yet to install it. - Out of curiosity, does anybody know if installing the CAI voids the warranty? I know most modifications to just wanted to be sure on this one would since I didn't buy the tune, just the CAI.

They would have to find that the modification caused the failure. So say you put the CAI in and later on your radiator cracked, you'd still be covered under warranty.

CAIs are usually a very safe mod.
