Gears!!!! Finally!!!!!!!

So I bought my gears about 5 months ago....

Finally got to putting them in :p
I'm going to pick up my car tomorrow after work.
Got it done for 240, including the cost of a new bearing.
If anyone in northern Alabama needs gears done, I have the hookup.
Anyways, I have one major question in my mind. How long is the break in period?
I haven't driven my car in about 10 days (went out of town) so I really want to get on it, but I don't want to mess up the new gears, so any advice would help.
Thanks!!!

Don't push them too hard at the beginning. I got 3.73 gears and drove about 200 miles before having fun.

I got 3.55s instead of the stock 2.73s

I chose 3.55 over 3.73 because I plan on turbocharging later

alrefire,

You'll be fine with 200miles of city driving. The most important part is for the miles to be stop and go driving, instead of highway and for the gears to experience a few heat cycles. So, make sure those 200 miles are done within at least 4 or 5 drives and be sure to let the gears cool down for 1-2hrs after each complete cycle.

Other than that, there's not much a break in. Enjoy the new gears!

Shane

His name is ray hice, he lives in killen, AL
Right next to Florence.

Gears were 150ish
Fluids were 60ish
The bearing was 55ish
And the labor was 175
Total came out to about 540

And a quick question Shane,
I have to drive 1 hour on the highway, to pick up my car.
Should I stop by in a nearby town, or should I not worry about it?

Everyone has different break in ways. Mine is VERY thorough and involves figure eights and on/off driving. Most ppl do the normal drive n wait break in which isnt bad but I prefer my method but takes about 30min and then on/off drivibg for two days then easy driving for 150 miles

I live in Athens but got my 3.73's installed by Andy @ Autosport in Huntsville for $225 + parts about 1 month ago. Took Andy a day to install, no gear whine or problems so far. I went with him because he was highly recommended in posts on hsvracing.

I paid around 200 for labor and had 3:73 gears installed . Long gone are those crappy 2:73 gears. I would of regret getting 3:55's. I have an automatic so super or turbo charging down the road is not an issue for my 3:73 gears.

Really?
because he quoted me $400 (labor only), and was always a d!ck to me. I think he has something against v6s... or the fact that I told him that the newer v6 and GT have the same rear end. minus the ratios.

so I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but should it be shifting around 3k rpm coming out of 1st gear. Is the mph supposed to be the same with the new tune, or are the RPMs?

I bought the American muscle Ford Racing 3.73 Gears and Install Kit (05-14 V8; 11-14 V6) + Rear Gear Pinion Bearing - 8.8in (10-14 V8; 11-14 V6)
Make sure you order the additional correct bearing from the drop down menu I posted above.
So $339.98 for everything for the install from AM (includes the 6% forum member discount on allfordmustangs) + $225 to Autosport for labor/install.
Total was $564.98

I went ahead and had a tune sent for 3.73 gears, loaded in parking lot and drove home.

I asked how much to install FRPP 3.73 gears. I told him my car was a 2013 Mustang V6 automatic, that I had everything for install and it was a 8.8 rear end. The only thing he asked me was if it was a live axle rear end or independent rear. The guy was super nice to me, even talked to me a little bit about the car. The only other thing was I had to schedule the car a week out, but like I said done in 1 day.
The $225 install was exactly what was posted in multiple threads on hsvracing.

If he knew Mustangs he would've known that we have a live axle. All except cobras have live axles.

In Azusa from this place called performance gearing. Everything parts and labor was $600 even. It was one of the best deal I've heard of for gears here in Cali. This Thursday I'll have the jump in you at the track because of them

He's not a Mustang only shop, he mainly works on GM, Ford, Dodge performance vehicles. He knew the new GT's were 8.8 and live axles and all about the coyote engine. I don't fault him for not knowing what the new V6 mustang has, especially a 2013. (I mean up untill 2011 who cares about V6 stangs). I think I was the first 2013 or 14' V6 that he put gears in. I highly doubt there are many people with a 2013 Mustang V6 running out and getting gears in the area. Any how I'm satisfied, no gear whine, no problems with the install and a lot
of to everyone around me.
