BAMA Tune and maybe intake

I have talked to some people about getting the BAMA tune and put in a cold air intake but most have said the 2013 mustangs already have a really good intake so just the tune would be good for now. I was just wondering what you guys think if I should wait and get both at the same time or would just get the BAMA tune now and get the intake later on?

Thanks Guys!

I got both and I can,t keep my foot out of it.If you want a great sound of
your engine revving out then get one.I purchased a JLT cai and love it.

I think AM gives you a better price if you purchase a both as a combo,
tuner and cai and tunes for life.

We've seen as much as 22hp and 30tq with a Bama/CAI combo package on our 2011 v6 automatic. The car's peak numbers were 260hp 241tq stock, which bumped up to 273hp 363tq after the Bama tune and Airaid intake. Like I mentioned above, the most impressive gains were under the peak power curve, which is what you feel driving around town!

Also, keep in mind this was with an automatic transmission, which produce less power to the wheels than a manual. So the gains are even more significant with an 6speed manual!

If you have any other questions, just let me know!

+9999

I haven't gotten a tuner (yet) but my JLT no tune CAI is awesome! just the CAI alone took away any throttle lag I have in 2nd and 3rd gear and it gave my engine a nice mean sound. getting ready to throw lethal o/r h pipes on and Pype bomb Axlebacks on next week then my next upgrade will be a tune....

Def get the combo

Well , you could without a tune technically however my understanding not only will it throw a code, but the car won't run right because the cars computer is programmed to run with the factory cats.

That's true. I actually just saw a video of an offroad h-pipe prior to loading the tune and it idled very rough to the point where it almost wanted to stall.

False ^_^ lemme get the original creator of that video to jump on here and confirm but that video was a before video of the tune on a Steeda CAI. U can easily run no tune with no cats haha he was doing it for months before he got it tuned. I have bbk cat deletes on my 5.0 and I ran it like that for months. Then I tuned it to get rid of the code and fix my Air/Fuel

There should be no throttle lag with the stock air box! The only thing an aftermarket CAI will do is allow for the noise factor, as it's been discussed and shown many times before, the stock air boxes on the Mustangs flow as good as the CAI's. If you buy a tuner, that's a different story.

The CAI will create the "noise" factor, which is what most think it is flowing better. Your stock air box has a sound muffler on its tube to eliminate the sound.

Can the sound muffler be removed?

Yes. I did a writeup some time back on this. I used a dremel tool with a small cutting disc; I cut off the "muffler, then used fiberglass and matt to seal the hole. I sanded, then painted the tube, and basically created my own CAI, using the sealed stock air filter box.

I think you might be referring to my video on YouTube. If so, Charlie is right. I ran my o/r H-Pipe for a month or two without a tune with no issues other than the CEL. The video was to show what will happen if you just install a Steeda CAI without a tune. BC it is a tune required CAI, I was showing why the tune was required. Hope this helped. I also have my Steeda CAI and iTSX tuner for sale. Pm if interested. I have quite a few mods for sale off my 3.7.

I installed a JLT cai and bama's 93R tune on my 2012 3.7L pp mt-82 car. It was night and day difference in power AND mpg! Car ran great! I got tired of it quick tho and traded it in for a 2013 5.0 m6 base. Which I'm running an airaid cai and bama's tunes with steeda cat delete pipes. My car(the 5.0) stock put down 354tq and 372hp. With the tune, cai, and cat deletes I put down 400hp even and 383tq. I have also picked up about 2.5-3 mpg on the highway!
It's absolutely worth it specially if you plan on modding more down the road. The sf3/x3 SCT handheld is used by almost EVERY tuner in the country (including dyno tuners) to tune these new 3.7 & 5.0 mustangs!
Just be warned that the speed limiter is eliminated with the aftermarket tune on both 3.7 and 5.0. The limiter is 113 on the v6 from the factory for a reason!
