First time at the track

Hey guys (and gals), I'm going to the local drag strip tonight with my bone stock 2014 automatic Mustang v6 to get some baseline numbers.

I will post all of my numbers up for anyone that is curious.

Any tips or advise would be appreciated as I've never been to a track before!

Focus on your launch don't worry about beating the other guy just run your best and get some solid and consistent times

Yeah, I'm going to really focus on my launch.

Any tips on launching an auto? Or just pedal to the metal.

I've noticed a decent amount of delay from when you mash it to when it actually reacts. I'm blaming it on the fly by wire system.

Not sure what RPM to launch at but hold it to the point it seems like the tires are gonna break loose. When the last yellow light lights up release the brake and ease on the gas aggressively don't stomp on it right out the gate because you might just spin the tires.

Are we able to power brake? I think I remember reading this has a brake over accelerator system that will cut the throttle if you apply both at the same time.

So my bone stock 2014 v6 Mustang's best pull was 14.4 @ 99 mph. And this is from a complete newb at the track. Probably would be better with some experience.

This is straight from brake to gas, non power braking, TC and Advanctrac turned off and transmission in sport mode.

I ate up a 2.0t Genesis coupe, Honda SI and Mitsubishi Eclipse. I was neck and neck with an 99ish Camaro SS.

Best of all, I had a great time and got tons of compliments on my car. I can see how this becomes an addiction.

Congrats on the time pretty good for a newbie I think. Just keep practicing. What was your 60' time? Yeah it stays in your system and you start to miss as you stay away. Then all you want to do is go faster so you start to modify lol

You could run those times with only $900 of the right mods.

If you ran door to door with an LS1 Fbody with a 14.4 @ 99, they simply suck at life.

Sounds like you had a good time. I would recommend trying a track day or an autox event. They can be a ton of fun, more so than drag racing imo.

Regardless a lot less than 3,500 is needed to get a 13.4 1/4 mile.

What 900 dollar mods you gonna do to take 1 second off your 1/4 mile time? A performance tuner and CAI alone will run 600 dollars and you ain't taking 1 second off 1/4 mile.

Gears, tune, and slicks can get you those times easy. Saw a guy on YouTube get 13.2 with just tune gears intake and throttle body. And the intake and tb doesn't do much at all. He might have had a mid pipe. But all that together would only be around what $1,500

Of course good track conditions and elevation is always a good factor

Ok, maybe not door to door. More accurately front tire to rear fender lol. It felt close though!

My first mod is going to be changing that rear gearing. I don't want to say it felt sluggish off the line, but 305 horsepower should be a little more kick in the butt off the line. After about 40mph it starts to pull very nicely though.

I can definitely feel the mod bug creeping. It's going to bite soon. I don't know about $3.5 million in mods though haha.

That's not 900 dollars. What do slicks cost? 13.2 with gears, tune and throttle body. Then I should be in the high 12's with my mods then. Lol

Gears and tune will run close to 1k alone plus another 200 for cai. I know I spent probably around 3k in performance mods on my stang. Its actually not hard to do.

Gears can cost between 300 total to 1000 parts and labor.
