Replace stock side mirrors with heated?

Have a 2013 V6, and want to trade out the existing side mirrors with heated/defrosting ones. Is this possible/easy/hard/impossible/inadvisable? How best to get replacement mirrors (Ford, eBay, junk yard, etc)?

Thanks!
Mike

Not wanting to bust your balls but it's beginning to look like you didn't do much planning when you bought your V6. You didn't get one with the nav unit and you don't like the mirrors because there not heated. You waited till after you purchased your car to ask if they can be put on after you bought it.

Yikes, who pissed in your cornflakes this morning? Sheesh.

To the OP: It seems that there is a distinction between non-heated and with heated mirrors for parts compatibility. Your parts counter may be able to help. If you are able to just put one on, they are about 200 each on eBay.

Wow. Thanks for your input. Perhaps I found a car, in the overall style I like, in a price range that I was looking for. Upon achieving that particular mission, I then chose to set out to ask on a fairly informative forum which niceties I may be able to add on afterwards. Perhaps I did make a horrible mistake when not considering these lacking options as deal-breakers.

Again, thank you so very much for your helpful advice.

Very true. I just don't understand, why are you going to post a whole paragraph, while contributing nothing relevant to the thread?

Funny, nobody ever complains that their auto transmission was made in China, or that the syncros are going, or that they have a bad smell coming from it, or that there shifter is rubbery and needs to be upgraded, or that it rattles, or they blew it up power shifting like an idiot. My shifter works well, and it works fast, and I got it for a bargain. 20k got me a loaded, like new 5.0 AUTO that's smoking fast!

Lets keep this thread on track please.

Back to the OP....you may also want to check that all Mustangs, or your model, is prewired for heated mirrors before you make the purchase. It seems logical that Ford would use one major wiring harness for all models, but it may not be the case. In the past, they did use different harnesses for different models that recieved options.

So I also Have been looking into this as the Package was not on the Car I picked do to inventory availibe. So I pulled the cover on the drive side and it does have 7 wires running to the pig tail but my non heated mirror only has 4 pins. So I think I'm going to get an heated with pony projector mirror and try it out. I need to find a heated mirror button and location so i can see if there is a pig tail for the connection as well.

So there's a seperate button on the dash to operate the heated mirrors....the owners manual should show that.
Before I purchase the mirrors, I'd remove the blockoff plate (assuming you do not have this switch/push button) to see if that too is pre-wired.

So after reading in the owners manual I found out that the headed mirrors are tied in with the rear defrost. Just need to find a donor car now.

Ok, bit the bullet and ordered the headed mirrors with pony light after testing the wiring on my car. If everything god well I'll have them on next week and I'll do a write up as well.

How'd you test it? Just disconnected the side mirror connector and check for power with a multimeter while the rear defrost was on?

I used a test light. Grounded it to the door and probed the #5 and #6 wires on the plug when I disconnected it and when I pushed the rear defrost and opened the door for the pony light they both worked. The one for the pony light faded when I locked the door as well just like the map lights.

Kona Mike say's:

Kona Mike needs to know that the Manual transmission is made in China, The Automatic is made in Michigan U.S.A.
Both are very good transmissions.

Who Dat, Try to get a set painted the same color as your car.

Since the mirror circuit uses the rear window defrost button, the only parts would be the mirrors themselves. They have a symbol imbossed in the glass to indicate they are heated.

So, I'd say the parts list is down to just the left/right power mirror:

2013 Drivers side power and heated - 2013 Ford Mustang Door Mirror | FordParts.com

2013 Passengers side power and heated - 2013 Ford Mustang Door Mirror | FordParts.com

I did not find a heated mirror available for the 2011 and 2012, so be careful; these years may not be pre-wired. I'd guess the 2013's would fit, but the heated mirror portion may not work.

This is slightly off subject but I was wondering if the 13 mirrors would fit a 10-12. I have a 2010 that's missing the "blind spot" mirror was I was thinking about buying that and found a good deal on 13 mirrors.

Ok install write up to come in a few hours. All you need is the left and right mirrors, an 11mm wrench and a flat tip screwdriver. I now have pony lights and headed mirrors. Click image for larger version

I was noticing that too, but I'm proficient/confident enough with wiring that I could tap into the rear defrost wiring and retrofit my 2012 to work with 2013 heated mirrors. I've just gotta make sure the 2012 connectors have slots for the pins.
