low gas light

I get the low gas light turned on when it says i have 50miles of gas left... now... is the miles accurate or are they just estimated. I've been tempted to let it go till it says i have 5 miles left but don't want to end up in the middle of the street lol.

In total i get 290miles to the tank so should i be worried when it hits 50?

thanks.

i have a '14 if it makes a difference.

Every time that gas light goes on, the first thought that goes thru your mind should be: "Oh crap! I'm f'n up my fuel pump by running my car low on fuel"...

I've had it hit 0 and I think black on boss has went above and beyond.

I usually fill up with around 10-20 left depending in when I need to fill up etc.

I think we have a 16 gallon tank? I've never put in 16 gallons. Usually between 13.8-14.4 gallons. So I would say you could run it further but why risk it!

The display is surprisingly accurate, IMO. It adjust to the amount of fuel you have in the tank (of course), but also to your driving style. If you're current driving aggressively, the predicted mileage will drop, but you can usually bring it up a little if you drive more conservatively.

If you're familiar with the area you're in and know where the gas stations are, I don't see a problem bringing the display to 10miles. Just keep in mind taking hard turns or accelerating aggressively in that time is asking for trouble!

Haha. I like your style!

If your luck is anything like mine though, the damn thing will break the week after the warranty runs out...

I thought E stood for : Ehhhh go another mile... Haha. My last car i went to zero and like 3 miles later I was out of gas. Heavily modded car though so it would get like 12/15 avg mpg. I honestly always try to fill up at around 3/8 of a tank regardless of any car. Better for car and for u too because being stranded sucks. If your car could talk itnwoyld probably say, " thanks *******". Lol

I had 53 miles to empty for about 6 miles...very slow, smooth flowing traffic. I thought I was losing my mind.

I've had mine down to 0 miles to e. It turned there right as I was pulling into a gas station. Took a little over 15 gallons to fill up.

You should avoid doing this (run the tank this low)!!! Your fuel pump is located in the gas tank, and is cooled by the fuel in the tank. Running the gas this low causes the fuel pump to overheat, and will fail prematurely. Expensive part, and a pain to replace. You can get to them from a removable plate under the rear seat, but just keep no less that a quarter tank as much as possible.

Don't worry about running out of gas.

You can always call one of your friends to leave what they are doing and bring you a can of gas. I'm sure they really love to carry a nice gas can in their car. It makes the car smell really great. What are friends for if you can't ask them to do you a favor like bringing you a can of gas because you are """STUPID"""

Get your gas before you run out and save a friendship.

hey, if that's too much to ask then they were never really a friend now were they?

There are so many places to buy gas in America

There is NO reason to run out. I will go for a flat tire or breakdown but Never Ever for some ignorant idiot that runs their car out of gas.

I don't mind going to help someone that drank to much and did not want to drive. But I find absolutely no reason for anyone to run out of gas.

When you get down to around 1/4 tank then it's time to fill it up. It's a lot easier on the fuel pump and you won't have to worry about messing up your friendship.

All of my friends know how I feel about running out of gas so they know not to even think about calling me if they do.

I had a friend call me when they needed gas.

I drove over to the side of the road where they were at, farted in their car and left a bean burrito...
