Arn't most new engine blocks "open deck" now? With overhead cams being used on most engines, the center deck area for a cam is no longer needed.

Its mainly for oiling and cooling, doesn't really have anything to do with the cams. Its fine stock just not necessarily good for boost because the cylinders aren't as strong. Any car that comes boosted stock is basically closed deck

Hmm, maybe I don't understand an "open deck" verses a "closed deck".

So, a closed deck has beefier surroundings around the cylinders?

Ours looks like the one on the right and the one on the left is like gt-rs, Audi's, Bmws, and 4 cylinder turbo basically anything that comes with a turbo or supercharger. We do have a little thicker cylinder wall but still not as strong as if it were closed. So we are going to try and make a girdle that fills in that empty area so we can get that strength back, people have been doing it to Hondas since the 90s

Never mind. I did my own research and found some interesting information. Now I'm comparing the blocks.

At the end it mentions all models will come with a strut tower brace.

I would have loved that.

They did...sort of...for a price (performance package).

The GT block is like a hybrid between an open and a closed deck
