It's getting harder and harder to find a manual trans car that isn't completely stripped down.

I have arthritis in both knees, my hip has 12 titanium screws with misc bone spurs and my right ankle is more metal than bone. I much prefer a manual trans car, pain be damned.

I live in LA...so auto was a must (not really but I didn't want to have my first stick car and sit in 2 hours of traffic weekly, screw that).

The next one (probably a 16GT) will be a manual...screw it.

Love the auto right now though.

Since there is a chance i would be able to swap for a 5.0, would it be worth it to mod the car now with a cai and a tuner? I had purchased a combo a few weeks ago but i was considering returning them

Don't see why not. If you want to resell them it won't be too bad down the road.

Nothing wrong with the auto, but I can't stress enough:

The best investment in your new (to you) standard Mustang is a $500 pos w/ a standard. learn to drive standard, sell it/trash it/whatever.

A new Boss for 500 more than a GT, would have bought that Boss and a 92 Camry for 1,000 more than the GT...lol

Heck, my car I traded in WASN'T worth $500, but they gave it to me to be nice, and then Ford added in $500 for trading in a car at all.

I just bought a manual 2000 mazda protege winter beater for $500 with winter tires on it. It really depends on what's around in your area, check the internet, classifieds etc. I'm sure you can find a cheap one.

Are you serious?

I have no idea what the local cars on sale in your area are. Keep in mind a mint condition and lots of work and modified car will be worth more, while a janky rusted car will be cheaper.

When I got my 5.0, the plan is to make it a strip car. So I was considering the auto. My wife laughed an said, only manuals belong in sports cars, you will not be happy with an auto. She was right.

I have no idea where you are, or the deals in your area. With the information I have, I advise this car:

http://m.autotrader.com/vdp.html?id=360400559

The MX3 that was in Seattle for a year or so finally sold. Or this one:

Or this: http://m.autotrader.com/vdp.html?id=357194059

Been driving a manual sine I was 5. Would shift while in the passenger seat as a kid to learn where to shift and same thing on the tractor too. I have an auto now and dont regret it. I thought I would miss it but to my surprise I really don't.

I just sold my tuner from my v6 tonight as I promised the wife I wouldn't mod this one until payoff. A tuned auto In These cars is awesome. The temptation was too great with it laying around to get a tune. As it is every time I start her up I smile.

Get whatever you want. A mustang is sweet whether it's an auto/manual v6/v8 or the new 4 banger coming out.

Some people seem to be insecure about what others think.

+1

And the new 4 banger looks sweet, 310HP, turbo, and around 36 MPG!

No, that's still the speculation.

I was just reading the unconfirmed specs. 2.3 Eco 310, 3.7 at 305 and the 5.0 at 420. Apparently trannys will stay the same for now but a rumored 10 speed auto is in the works?!? Again I'll wait for the official ford postings before I believe these specs. Has ford released any confirmed numbers or engine choices yet? Links?

That's cool. The 4 banger will be the big news out of the three.

10 speed is old news, joint venture w/GM. It's going into a lot of future cars amongst the two companies lines. Check out the auto mags, it's getting kind of annoying now, we've had CVTs for ages, the only impressive thing is Ford and GM are still working together- that was the biggest shock to me.

Here is some more info on the joint venture, they started talking about the 10 gear before the article, more info on SAE.org: GM and Ford join forces on AT development - SAE International

Interesting read, thanks for the link. Its actually the first time I've heard of the 10 speed transmissions from ford/gm. I was aware of the joint 6 speed r&d between the two but not the 10. As for CTV, my brother in law has a sentra that I've been in a few times and to be honest its not for me. He doesn't really like it either and when his lease is up it won't be another Nissan for him he says.

The new Mustang will be released with the existing 3.7 and 5.0 specs. The new 4 cylinder will not be available until about mid year. If you want one, you'll have to wait.

Dodge already has their 10 speed released, so I guess Ford and GM are behind on that.

I hate CVTs. CVTs are like electric cars. For 80% of the people, they work better than their counterpart (manual and petrol), but they aren't right for ME.

If it's new, it might be a good read. Should be more on SAE. I like most Nissans, but wouldn't get a CVT in anything.
