Hey guys, I'm new to the forum but not really. I've been a member for a while but I just browse mainly getting insight. But I've got a few questions the hopefully you can shed some light upon. I own a 2010 v6 that I love to no end but want so much more out of. I've been seriously doing my research as far as bolt on power adders, inductions, and internals to get this car woken up. I'd love to have a v6 to blow people's minds but let's face it, without pockets as deep as bill gates that can't happen to easy. So recently I've been considering the possibility of a 5.0 swap as well as changing from an auto to manual tranny. Now before you tell me to just make the upgrade to a gt or something other listen to my reasoning. I'm 19. I'm in the army. And my insurance is already a pain on my pay with my car being a v6. So keeping it registered as such is what I'm looking at doing. But here's my questions to you guys. I know I'll need the motor of course and the ecu. But what else? Motor mounts? Rear end? Instrument cluster? What? I honestly don't know. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but I'm just at a loss of wisdom. Any help is greatly appreciated. Also on a side note, I've got those ugly tan/creme interior door panels that I'd like to swap out for the black set with the shaker or kicker whatever they are speaker sets. Any ideas where I could find a full interior plastics set?

What you really need is a donor car find a totaled gt will be the best and easiest way to do a swap

Also something I've looked into a little but finding a totaled gt or. 5.0 is kinda a pain in the arse. Any links or ideas to where I could find some? The yards around me don't have any

13 years ago I did an 88-t-bird 5.0 into a 3.8 donor car and let me tell you even with old 88 tech it took a summer of weekends to complete. Mind you I was also putting the digital dash from the 5.0 to the donor so there was extensive rewiring to do. I could only imagine the headache that would come by doing a newer car swap and going from auto to manual. Imo just trade up. But back to your question, in my case it was almost a complete gut and rebuild. Its not as easy as just replacing the motor/tranny, which was actually the easy part, but all the wiring and parts you need to replace in order for the car to actually function. As for keeping it insured as a 6, if you do manage to complete the swap and you get into an accident, as soon as they realize its a 5.0 in there and not a V6 I'd imagine your insurance company won't pay for anything as its not the same premium whatsoever. Again I'm speculating but I'm thinking your going to have problems with your insurance for sure!

Ford sells the engine with all the wiring ready to go. I'm sure you can buy just the controller though if you find a donor car. Take the PCM from one from that car. You will have to have it programed for your car. My local dealer does this. Sutton Ford just south of Chicago. Chassis dyno too. They just had a special on the 5.0 engines.

im pretty positive thats also insurance fraud.not recommended.

trade up to a 2011+ 6 and youll have a much better engine to start on and you wont be screwed over if you need to file an insurance claim.

Thanks for all the feedback. And yeah I didn't really think about the whole insurance situation all the way through I guess. Thanks for that. And as far as a trade up to a newer 6 goes, I'd rather just give it a few months, get my taxes in and try for a 5.0 and bite the insurance bullet. However I do think that having a completely decked to the brim 6 would be a hell of a sight. Idk I'm very indecisive at this point as to what I wanna do.

It's listed as a base model but I know on the 10 only the premium has dual exaust, this one has duals so idk. It's race red has a charcoal interior and 12,083 miles. Pretty good for 21,500 if you as me. Now let's just hope the bank comes back yes lol

The 2010 still had the 4.6 & 4.0. The GT had dual for sure but I've seen multiple 2010 sixxers w/single exhaust

Lol I guess mine just wasn't loved and didn't get duals. But then again I haven't seen any 6's with duals unless they're premiums or aftermarket

Yeah I have the similar question..2004 v6 I want to just swap out the engine etc. And get a bigger engine with mods. Because I love my car and the model shape, cherish it.. However im not sure if I should just wait until taxes and get a cheaper 99-04 gt or make payments on a 2011+ gt instead of going through all the trouble.

2005-2010 4.0 liter V6's only came with a single exhaust outlet, if it had dual exhaust it was 100% aftermarket (even if dealer installed it, it's still aftermarket). Dual exhaust is now standard on 2011+ 3.7 liter V6's.

You also mentioned it was Race Red, Race Red is only available in 2011-2014.

Whoop whoop traded in my 10 for a 13 race red v6! The step up in power is actually pretty significant to me. However I feel like my 10 had more bottom end and my 13 has more top end. Anyone know if that's true? Either way here she is

There are thousands of cars with engines from other sources driving around every day. Swap an engine from the same year and make it easy. If insurance is an issue, you need to search for another company. Insurance company's will write any policy. The VIN number would be wrong with the new engine. Major wreck repairs happen all the time. Even, engine wrecks!
