Is it totaled?

so I've had my 2014 for 10 months, and earlier this week, some guy cut me off, didn't even have time to break. Still waiting to here back from the insurance. Would you say its totaled? engine shifted up.

Did the airbags deploy? How are the gaps at the front and back of the doors?

Someone mention yesterday on another thread about a wrecked car that it costs thousands to replace the airbags...

If the engine really moved up that means the frame was bent

My bet; no.

Your pony will need a new hood, fenders, front fascia (bumper cover, headlights, grilles, etc.), probably a new bumper (the metal brace), and frame straightening since you said the engine is 'shifted up'. I'd ask your insurance company if they'd cover those stripes as well, that's probably ~$150 of labor done from a professional.

It looks like the fenders absorbed the damage so the body from mid-fender and back *appears* to be okay.

I really wonder why folks say that if an AirBag Deploys it costs Thousands...[perhaps I don't know about a new issue we need to know and protect ourselves about]

OK, last situation I was in as a passenger in sidekick in a late 90's CatDi Sudan Deville with a head on wrong way driver at 70+70mph on I75 at mark 82.. those airbags had so much smoke we thought the car was on fire; but it was not.

One main Primer item in an airbag is a ATF explosive on a special exemption, but what is the reason folks are now saying airbags cost so much in thousands if deployed? Did a new Government crap regulation make it even more costly by 10x ??

Send a message via AIM to lowflyn
Most modern airbags cause more damage than just the airbag itself. If side airbags happen to deploy you can triple the costs. Then the module itself

Sent from my massive johnson.

Comes down to the cost of the repair vs the value if the car. If the repairs exceed the value then your insurance co will total it. Good luck!

It probably is, the damage to my car after some old lady cut me off looked very minor compared to this and I had at least $19,000 worth of damage to the car from the estimate.Click image for larger version

I just had a piece of scaffolding fall out of the bed of a truck and onto the hood of my car. From 30 feet away you can't even tell anything is wrong.

Their insurance cut me a check for $2287.11

Here are pics of the damage.

As you can see it's not a huge dent or scrape or anything. Parts for these cars are expensive. A new hood is about $930 by itself.

I would push them for a replacement or pay off.

It may not be totaled. But after damage like that the car will never be the same. I would push to actually have them total it so you can get a new one

Maybe you'll get enough out of insurance to move into a 5.0

It sucks when things like this happen and it's a shame you have only had your car for ten months but you have to look at the possible good that may come from this if things work out.

With damage like that, it's just good that you were not hurt. Glad to have you posting here. A vehicle can always be repaired or replaced, but you or your health, that's a different story.

Keep us posted on how it all goes with the insurance. That can sometimes be as stressful as the accident itself.

Who's your insurance company? I work in auto claims and I would total that car. Since it's new you are going to need a lower frame rail, apron or some other major structural part to push it over. FYI, just because airbags deploy doesn't mean it costs thousands it depends on the make model and what airbag is involved. A steering wheel deployment may also require the replacement of a clock spring, module, seat belt, just to make a few items. Head curtain air bags are the worst as they require new headliners. Airbag components aren't cheap, are required to be OEM, and always installed by an certifitied tech paid at a mechanical rate. If it was me, I'd want my car totaled. If it's the other parties fault and they repair it, ask about diminishment of value. Glad everyone is safe!

Got a call from my insurance yesterday, they told me damages were 13,000 and were still doing the estimate. 10 minutes later she called that their gonna go ahead and total it. Sucks that my mustang only lasted 10 months, but I'm in the market for a 5.0!

That is good. You wouldn't want it back after an accident like that. Good luck with the new car search!

It's sad, but at the same time you won't have to worry about having a car with a major accident on a CarFax report.

Same thing happened to my '13 a few months ago. Glad to hear your OK and that you are getting things worked out with insurance. If I could offer one piece of advice it would be to make some sort of file containing/detailing all your interactions with both your insurance and the other party's. It may seem like tedious work, but it really helped me down the road. Good luck with the new car search!

Exactly, if the engine has moved I would demand that they total it or find you another car comparable to yours. My uncle had that done, they found him a car just like his and it was cheaper for the insurance company. I would never own a car that the frame has been straightened on unless it was like a $1000 work car that you just junk up anyway. A shop told me that once one is bent, yeah it can be straightened but will never be right. I will be weaker and alignments will always be an issue. Just hope they total it. Sorry about your car.
