Not Loud Enough

I have a 2011 v6 mustang base and got a custom exhaust system. Magnaflow xpipe and magnaflow axle backs with tips. The oval ones, not the skinny ones. It sounds louder than stock but I want it louder. Any suggestions? Should I take off cats?

Well you could drop a Crate Motor in a engine swap to make it louder...

Just what is really wrong in the setup you got? V6 with just Borla Ford Brand Stingers have had new GT guys ask me what I had to get their car to sound like that. Of COurse once they put Stingers on the new GT it was better than mine...

So just what are you trying to sound like? Frankly X pipes reduce low end sound and are for high RPM, the factory H-X pipe will most times sound better down low where is it I care for the sound.

The V6 can sound great like a road race track GT car... but it wont be a V8...

Your taking' the CATs off will result in your performing a boarder line felony and make the car not resalable or you could face a 40K fine.

You could sell them and get Roush ABs, keep the x pipe and LT headers... That's about as loud as it will get

No cats on a DD, no go. At least high-flow cats.

You want loud?

Go to your local muffler shop.
Disconnect the pipes at the cats ( Leaving the cats on.) Or replace them with Hi-Flow cats.
Have the muffler shop bend you a set of pipes that will come out the sides of your mustang. They should be able to provide hangers and install them with no problems. They can actually flatten out a pipe for clearance if needed and as long as they keep the inside diameter the same it will not affect performance .
Now you will have """LOUD""" save weight, and have a truly custom set-up.

man, I did that on a 1971 Sebring plus with a small block Mopar engine with headers, but no cats back than. It was so loud it drove girls right out of the car and into someones else's. Soon I put pipes to the back with "turbo" mufflers they just came out with, better than stock, but not as bad as glasspaks. Then girls quit fleeing the car

I'd leave the catts and go with a set of borla ataks or Roush if you want LOUD. I run Roush on my 13 v6 and its loud as ****, I and love it, even the wife loves it. I get many compliments from young to older people!

Yea, but I wanted the OP to think what his choice might actually backfire like it did on me in the mid-70s.

Yeah its not a set up I'd go with. Op there are quite a few options to find that "loud" sound your looking for. You tube is a good starting point to maybe give you some ideas.

Welcome to the mod world, you have to pay to play. If you think 469$ is a lot then don't even look at the borla I suggested. Just think you spent 460$ and it's not exactly what you wanted where the roush alone would have gave you all the "loud" you wanted! Just saying.

^^ +1000000

If you want quality sh*t you have to pay, don't cheap out. I'm a very stingy person myself, but when it comes to an investment as large as my new GT I only give it the best.

Usually, when you buy cheap, you end up paying more than the expensives ones.

Example: you buy a cheap pair for 200 bucks. They don't fit, or the tips rust, or you can't get them aligned to look good from the back. You end up buying good quality for 400 to 500 bucks. Now you have 600 to 700 bucks invested in your axle backs.

I recently installed 3" Pypes high flow cats into my system. It is louder. About a 300 upgrade with installation.

No. I have full intake/exhaust setup.
Airaid CAI, bbk 73mm TB, porting, bbk shorty ceramic headers, Pypes cats, frpp xpipe, stock resonators, gt500 mufflers
The Pypes were last to install, which was recently. It increased the tone quite a bit.
