v6 performance package (19.5k OTD) or stock (16k OTD)

I got offered the following pricing for a 2014 manual at my local dealership (with incentives + .mil discount etc.)

16k out the door, on a completely stock 2014 v6

or

19.5k for the performance package v6

This would be my first *new* car, so is this good pricing and is the v6 performance package worth it @ that price, or should I just ebay better parts myself and upgrade gradually?

Thanks in advance!

Well you can build and order a mustang off of ford.com and according to them, the v6 performance package is $1995...

Do either have the Premium package? That will also bump up the price.

Check and see with your military discount what a 2014 Premium V6 will cost you. Being a Premium will make it easier to sell down the road. You will like the extra options on it.

The 19 inch wheels with the Performance Package has one disadvantage. 19" tires are more expensive and there are not as many to choose from.

That's my two cents.

Good Luck...

Unless they are really trying to get rid of the base one (both are heavily discounted as those prices), there must be something extra on the PP one.

I say go for the PP.

A new mustang with the pp under 20k? Go for it! If you go for the base you'll probably upgrade the wheels from those 17s which can run well over 1k anyway, plus all the other goodies are very nice! Btw those 3.31s will be so much better than those 2.73s which I have and can tell you they suck for performance! 2.73 =bad!

as the owner of a V6 PP i will say the 16K model would be hard to pass up. Both prices are great unless you are getting ripped on your trade in. I like mine the only option I regret not getting was an alarm and a b/up sensor. I added the alarm and intend to add the sensor but adding the alarm was a PITA!!!!! The one thing you do want as mentioned above is the 3.31 rear end. As to which one you should get at that price differance you can upgrade the base model to a better performing car than the PP for about that much but will then void parts of your wtty IE: if you upgrade the suspension Ford won't cover it if it makes noise or fails. Either way you are getting a great price for a fun car.

The price provided by the dealer reflects the appretiation to our military folks for serving.

We at Mustang Evolution appretiate all that serve in the military as well.

Not bad pricing at all... For reference I do not have military discount and ordered a brand new base none stock as soon as they hit the lots. I'm up here in the north and it rung me 26 OTD cash deal and that's in canadian ...

Yea... That's why lots of used car dealers have us licenses to travel to us car auctions.... Buy cheap.... Pay duties... Then come back to the north and still make a good penny.

Just short of $1000. The tech package, I think, was where the money went though. I got the car for less than the MSRP I found when I "built" it on the Ford website. I think that location plays a huge part in price.

On my v6 base I paid close to 3.5 k in taxes alone in Quebec! That's why when I hear otd under 20k makes me crazy! We get ripped a new ******* every time we buy a new car!

Canadian, when I bought my car in June 2012 our dollar was on par with the US and a base V6 was 23000$ give or take and a gt base was over 30k. We also have what's called a gas guzzler tax meaning anything over 4.0 you would pay more for your yearly registration, and that's on top of the 15%. Tax you pay before you leave the lot. On a 32k base gt we would have to pay a whooping 4800$ tax, brining it close to 37k and that's before financing, and I'm not sure how the finance rates are down there but I've never seen 0% on a mustang in the current model year up here. If you can afford to be able to take a 5 year term it will cost around 40k. Most people I know can't afford to pay their vehicles off in 5 years so they go with 6 or 7 and interest rates are even higher. Sure if you wait until they are clearing them out before the next model you can get a better deal but its still gonna b a lot. It makes it extremely hard in this struggling economy, and that probably goes for both sides of the border, but hey, N.A is the greatest place to live on earth!

I paid 20,400 OTD tax, title everything for my base '14 v6 in January. I got hit with 6.35% CT sales tax though which sucks. Can't imagine paying the taxes in Canada.

The tax on a used car here is 8℅, so even on a used 15k car it still ends up being a chunk of change.

I'd say go with the PP. I got my 2014 PP for 25k OTD with military and a Costco discount. Military discount is only $500 where I was but the Costco discount saved me the most with putting down the price to invoice.

I got the PP and tech package with my car and it wasn't bad for the price. (note California)

16k is a pretty good deal but I'd say squeeze the trigger and go with the PP if you plan on upgrading the gears, wheels, maybe possibly the suspension/brakes. I wish I had gotten offered 19.5k before taxes!

OP, your better off without the performance pack. You can get better parts for the same price. Koni shocks, struts and either Steeda, eibach or ford racing springs will perform better. You can always upgrade the gears on your own to for about $550-650 kit/install. I ordered my v6 with 3.31 as a standalone option and it's not enough for me. It's why I'm going 3.73 soon. $400 wasted. So unless you just really like the wheels I wouldn't get it. I paid 27K but I ordered mines and have every option minus nav and Recaros. You usually get a better deal buying off the lot. Luckily I got a few incentives including the military one. Wish I would have got the brochure with the $750 discount coupon.

Normally I'd agree with everything you stated, in fact that's exactly what I did. But when I went to buy my car I was expecting to pay around 27-28k(base) OTD (Canadian), If they would have said I could have got one with the pp under 20k OTD I would have been all over it, even if I was going to upgrade the gears and a few other things later down the road. A new stang under 20k, OTD with the pp would be an absolute steal for Canadians!
