What a difference! Glad I didn't choose the 3.73 gears!

Chill out man. This is a tech area and details about your car are important to know. You are excited about your mod and others would like to know what transmission is in your car. If I had an auto and was trying to decide what gears I wanted to go with this info is nice to know .

calm down. every one is just trying to figure out how car is set up. No one is trying to bash you.

Then general idea around here is that for autos the 4.10 is the "ideal" set up, and for manuals its the 3.73.

Easy cowboy, just asking cause I'm doing a gear change in 3 weeks on a manual and was going to ask how it was if you were also manual. Geeez.

With an auto and 4.10 just be prepared to only run about 65 at the most on the interstate. I drive i20 from my house to work but running only 65 doesn't bother me. I will probably be annoying when I go out of town, which isn't that often, but other than that I love them. Put it in sport mode and it's freakin fun to drive!

Man I'm on the fence between 373 and 410, I really enjoy doing about 75-80 on the highway so maybe I should lean towards the 373?

Auto here as well.

I really wanted the 4,10s, but I hear its just way too much for a manual so I'm going with the 3.73s.

MT82 first gear is 4.23 and with a 3.73 your looking at 15.7779 gear multiplication. With a stock 4.23 x 2.73 it's 11.547 with the same size, stock tire. You'll be shifting in 20' from a light. 3.73 is fine if you run a 28" drag radial. The MT82 has some real steep gears. Think it over. Tire diameter means a lot.

black12 is correct tire diameter aka tire height will change your gear ratio. I will give you an example my stock tires were 28" diameter my new tires are 29" they made my 3.73 gears act almost like 3.55 gears the bigger tires brought my gear ratio down to 3.60. Thats why I had to upgrade to 410 gears. you can go on tirerack.com and look up your tire to get the tire diameter and even revs per mile for changing that out in your tuner after the new gear change.

I'm going with the 3.73 and I do have an auto . I currently have 2.73 and I hear that's a day and night difference. I plan to supercharge one day and I'm thinking 4.10 on a supercharger will be too much let alone driving it now without a super charger. 3.73 just seems to have the best balance.

Funny I have 2.73 and drive 65-68mph on the interstate. My car is 95% DD and will make a few track runs for bragging rights(my younger cousin has an 02 ss) I was torn between 3.33,3.55, and 3.73. If my car had 3.08 or 3.15 from the factory it would be perfect for DD.

I have a 2014 mustang v6 with a bunch of mods. I'm having a new drive shaft out in and want to do gears. How involved is that for instal? Is it a lot of shop hours? Also it have a 6 speed manual and don't know what gears to go with. Will the 4.10 give me more pulling power off the line or when I get on it going down the road? Will either size gear work without other modifications to the car? I have a Bama tuner that I can adjust the gear size in. Does the new gears work with the rest of the rear end without issues?

I put 3.73s in my V6 and love the change it made. Still get about 25mpg hwy. It's an auto. I put 4.10s in my GT and also love them. It's also an auto. Mpgs are between 18-20 around town. I have no problems however driving 75-80 on the intersates. 80mph is around 2800rpm.Have only taken one highway trip and it got about 21.5mpg.

gears are one of the few mods that just about everyone agrees that a professional should do.

Yes gears is something a professional should do. I had the ford dealership put mine in. If u have a 6 speed u need to go with 3.73 gears.

I have an 11 V6 auto and decided on 3:73 gears. Love them and huge difference from my old 2:73 gears. 99% of my driving is highway and I'm still getting 26 mpg highway with all my other mods. If someone has an automatic then either 3:73 or 4:10 gears , you can't go wrong. OP, congrats on your new gear install and enjoy your new found power, non power adder. Lol

I totally agree gear installs should be done by the professionals or at least someone who really knows what their doing. Lol

From what people say it makes 1st almost useless (too short) with 4.10s.

So the 4.10 would actually hurt your 1/4 times? Or would it make up for itself after your out of firsts with more pull and power?

I think that really depends on your traction or possible lack there of. I personally didn't and don't have traction issues in regard too tire spin with my 3:73 gears and factory Michelin 17 inch tires. Now granted I did have a good amount of wheel hop when nailing it from a dead stop but that little issue was solved when I installed a pair of LCA's.

Depending on your traction issues, 4:10's may hurt your 1/4 mile times. It seems that people here with manual transmissions are the ones having all these traction issues with tires spinning. Not us auto guys or at least not me.

The 4.10 will not hurt your 1/4 times lol. If I was going to build a fully built drag v6 I would use 4.56 gears and circle d converter

In a 6 spd car, 4.10s will hurt your ΒΌ mile times as the car will be in the middle of 4th gear instead of at the top of third with 3.31. Same with your 0 - 60 times. A car with 4.10s will be shifting into 3rd before 60 whereas a taller gear will still be in 2nd and thus faster.

With 4.56's, your car would be slower than a car with 3.31's as you would be in 5th gear thus overdrive before you ran through the beams. On stock size tires anyways.

Not to mention he used to own the fastest n/a v6. Guess what gears he was running? 4.10 and using street tires. The guy that now has the world's fastest n/a v6 was tuned by Jon Lund.
