Weird Remote Start Issue

Hoping someone here could help me on this one.

I have the OEM single button remote start system installed on my 2013 V6 Automatic, and up until a few days ago it worked perfectly. But as of Saturday it started acting strange. It will go through the start process fine, I lock the car, hold the starter button down until the horn honks once. After a few seconds the horn honks again, and the car fires up. But instead of staying started, after about 10-15 seconds, the engine shuts off. I can hear some relays engaging in the car like it's trying to transfer power from one system to another, and that's when it shuts off.

Any Ideas? I have warranty coverage on it, but the dealer is a long ways from me and I want to avoid the trip if I can.

Thanks!

Sounds like a relay is releasing. Do you know where these relays are? If they are under the hood, try removing them, then re-installing them (relays).

I'm not completely sure, it sounds like its coming from under the steering column, possibly near the remote start module, I'll take a look for that.

I've also wondered if it has anything to do with the new LED bulbs I put in the dome lights, they shouldn't be more of a draw than the stock bulbs but its the only change I can think of.

Well, I agree with you that something like LED bulbs in the dome lights should have no effect on the remote start, but I have seen weirder issues! A simple way to rule that out would be to put the stock bulbs back into the dome lights, and try the remote start again. If it stalls after 15 seconds, at least your mind will be at ease that they were not the cause.

If it works, then you solved the issue, but then you'll be wondering what circuit the remote wiring relay(s) where used; could just be that whomever wired this up used the dome light circuit to power the hot lead of the relay, or its "trigger" (A relay has 4 connections; one is its ground, one is a power hot lead (power in), one is power out, and one is the trigger; a switched hot lead that activates the relay to "switch on" the hot lead to the power out lead), and the LED bulbs are somehow causing the relays to release when they are turned off or on via their timer; the dome lights do shut off after about 15 seconds after the key is off (or engine is first started), so if this circuit is being used as the trigger lead......

Try it (install the stock dome lights back it), and let us know.

If the remote start relay is tapped into the dome light circuit, the fact that LEDs have such little draw could be messing with something. I'm curious to see if reinstalling the stock bulbs remedies this issue.

Sent from the future.

I'm going to try to reinstall the stock bulbs tonight assuming I have them both.

I'm not sure that it's related just the only thing I've changed prior to the remote start issue. In fact, when I initially installed the LEDs, one of the bulbs had a broken terminal, so I had one stock and one LED bulb, which worked fine. I'm as curious as you guys to see what happens.
