A rate can be lower as well if you accept a high deductable. For example, if you are involved in an accident, and the repair costs are $2000.00, and your deductable is $1000.00, you pay $1000.00, and the insurance pays $1000.00.

My son went for a high deductable to help keep his cost down. His car was involved in a hit and run; the repair estimate was somewhere around $3500.00. His deductable was $1000.00.

He was not a happy camper, but nothing he could do.
That might be part of it. I never got an estimate for a lower deductible, but I have $1k collision and $500 comprehensive.

So just for poops and giggles, I just got a quote from geico cause I have state farm. I can get my mustang, cobalt ss and my 92 Subaru svx for 149/month. I pay 180/ month just for the mustang at state farm. But, my limits are MUCH higher with them. I could actually take a quote from geico that was 143/month with lowest state limits but the 149 was the popular one with a little higher limits. I may just switch.

The lady proceeded to turn her turn signal on and cross over 3 lanes making everyone slam on their brakes, and then take her exit... On a 10 min commute, I see something retarded like this happen about every other day.... just idiots live here).

Anyways...enough with my rant about drivers here, I have progressive and I also use them for my renter's insurance. They also gave me a bunch of discounts (ie: platinum loyal customer, bundling, and blah blah stuff I don't know what they are talking about). I also used their tracking device for 5 months or so and that gave me a permenant 20% discount. My deductibles are $1k, and since the insurance is sooooo cheap, I am likely to raise it up a bit.

^this.

I would venture to guess the deductibles for those individuals are higher. With any insurance if you have a higher deductible your monthly payments will be lower. I personally have a $500 deductible, paying $120/month.

Damn on some of these prices.

I have a 2014 Mustang V6, 99 Z28, 93 Talon TSI, 2010 Yamaha WR250R (motorcycle), 2008 Kawasaki KFX450R (atv), 1999 Honda 400EX (atv), 1998 Dodge Avenger ES, 2005 Hyundai Elentra (girlfriends), a small trailer and finally the 94 Mustang GT all insured for $143.82 a month.

$500 deductible on the cars, a $100 deductible on the bike, atvs and trailer. Also have maximum coverage on the quads, bike, Camaro and 2014 Mustang. Also, everything is insured for it's book price plus mods (quads are $9800 and $8500), Camaro is insured for it's value plus $7000 in mods.

I just turned 30 two weeks ago, I am single and have a 780+ credit score.

I have Progressive and have been with my insurance guy since I was 15 (quads).

Ah, there's the rub. Twice the age = half the cost

So many of these prices are so ridiculous! There are a few of these threads from the past, if one wants to search and see other information on it.

$438/6months, 24, clean record, full or maxed coverage on everything, and then 4k in aftermarket parts, gap coverage. It went down a LOT when I added my Honda. My company doesn't pay me to advertise, so all I can say is shop around.

Youngsters are so RUDE these days to their Better Seniors. There is one or two in her older than me and paying more than I do.

Actually the two car discount and not having to go to work are the big ones.

I'm not sure where you found "rude" in the fact that your rates go down as you get older. Even without the discount you'd still be paying significantly less than most of us in this thread. Being that we're under 30.

Sent from church, because I'm out of cheerios.

Yeah, I'll have to agree that some of you guys may want to price shop. I live in Louisiana, which is known for being a very expensive insurance state. I have a 2011 GT fully covered, a Chevy dually with liability, and a F-150 with liability ( all higher than state minimum, and the Stang with a $500 deductible ) plus my residence, a rental house, and my detached shop with contents and all insured, for $380 per month with Liberty Mutual.

BodInj-100/300k
PropDamage-50k
UnInsured-100/300k

Deductibles are 500 for liability/comprehensive- both are under full coverage right now.

Mustang is 346.50 for 6 months(57.75/month), and the Insight is 182.50 for 6 months(30.41). I save $278 per 6 months for having a paypal, (at fault) claim free for over five years, the discount for my highest level of education, having two cars, and paying in full.

No, they are not getting "hosed", It's just that you, like myself are middle aged, and with a long term safe driving record. If you're under 25, male, and god forbid, have any type of infraction on your driving record, and have your own policy (not on your parents), then your premiums are going to be high.

Those insurance companies that advertise the "choose your payment" deal going on are risky. Basically, you tell them how much you want (or can) pay. Beware! You are buying a coverage that has high deductables, meaning if you get into an accident, money out of your pocket will be high. And most don't have this deductable cash laying around, so they get sued. And leins get placed.

Now, try and buy another car, or a home, or rent something with this on your credit report. Think your insurance was high? Your ability to finance anything after this will cost you more in the way of finance rates as well.

The best thing you can do is to talk to an insurance agent when buying insurance, and of course, try and keep your driving record clean.
