Any 3.73 regrets?

I just got the appointment next Thursday (finally) for my 3.73s, was wondering if anyone had any regrets or dislikes about them.

I personally don't have them (I've got 3.31s) but everyone I've talked to that does have no regrets putting them in. I guess the only drawback would be you would be a bit higher in the rpm range while driving on the highway as opposed to the gears you have now.

I have 3.55 gears and to me it seems like the best of both world. It's a world of difference from 2.73 to 3.55, so that could be an option for you if you want to back out of 3.73. You will be able to tell the difference in your RPMs, but nothing that will make you nervous.

No need to worry about regrets. I'm sure you'll love the 3.73's. They're MUCH better than the factory 2.73's by a long shot. You'll feel a huge gain in acceleration. Trust me when I say you're in for a treat!

Bro, no need for cold feet. You will love your new found acceleration! I'm getting 26 mpg highway with my 3.7. I have zero spinning tire issues with my 3:73 gears and truth be told. I could of easily gone 4:10's no problem but no regrets with my 3:73 gears. We have 6 speed transmissions and 3:73 gears is nothing for rpm's. Doing 80 mph I'm at 2700 rpm's. 100 mph, 3000 rpm's.

Fear not young Jedi master! Do not fear the gear bro.

I got quoted 650$ gears and tax included, and for an extra 100$ he is going to install my SR lowering springs. Its a very reputable shop that only works on mustangs called mustang direct.

Any 3.73 regrets?

When you think about a complete gear kit including gear oil that's shipped to you, that's $300+. So you are getting the install for right around $300. That's not to bad of a price

That's $650 US or Canadian dollars

The only reason I wouldn't go with 3.73's is if you do the majority of your driving on the highway and care about gas mileage. From my experience in the past you won't notice much of a drop in city MPG it will just require more shifting. But from a performance aspect, can't go wrong with a good set of gears.

Canadian, I probably could have had it done cheaper but I went with a mustang specialist who does gears very often. My brother is a mechanic with 30 years experience and said he'd do it no problem but I know he doesn't do gears all that often, and my stang is my baby, so I just bit the bullet.

I personally will be doing 3.55's when the time comes since I do a lot of highway driving. However, I see most people getting worried about high RPM, etc as a cop-out with going to 3.73 gears. I think it's because we get acclimated with turning 1.5k RPMS's at 80mph, when most other cars are at 3k for the same speed, so when we read about the "huge jump" to 2700 rpm everyone gets nervous.

My opinion is Ford wanted a marketing ploy for the V6 to help with the last sales push of our gen cars. The result was they ended up castrating the car with these horrid 2.73 gears.

I was quoted $300 by a very reputable shop here in OKC. Plan on getting it done within' the next couple months. So after paying $255 for gears and install kit I think this will be a good bang for buck mod. I'm going 3.73 btw.

I hear ya bro! I actually don't find 2700 rpm's high but that's just me. If I'm at 2700 rpm's with my 3:73 gears doing 80 mph then 3:55's I'm guessing be 2400 rpm's give or take. 300 rpm's is not going to make a difference. I had debated this very thing when I had 2:73 gears. Should I go with 3:55 or 3:73 gears? Researched it for months and in the end so GLAD I went with my 3:73 gears.

Hindsight, I personally would of gone with 4:10 gears had I known back then what I know now. I don't track race, semi daily driver and all highway miles. We have 6 gears in our cars, its not like the 04 mustangs that have 4 gears. Big difference. A guy in my local mustang club has an 04 Gt with 4:10 gears and 4 speed automatic.

We have six speeds people. Ha ha ha!

I was paying attention this morning while driving on the highway, at 80mph i'm exactly at 2k rpms. Flat roads, on a stock v6, except for a cat back exhaust. How can some people get 1.5k rpms at 80mph?

I'm also at 2,000 RPM at a steady 80MPH

My 2012 cruises at 80 with my 2.73 rear. My Speed-o-meter is backed up with my GPS so I'm sure it is correct.
My car is a 3.7 Automatic

+1. My wife's 2010 Mazda 5 GT is around 2700 at 120kmh, and when you downshift from 5th to fourth it moves very well for what it is because it jumps right into its powerband. At that speed my stang with the horrific 2.73s is somewhere around 1900 in 6th gear. To get any real good power I usually have to go down two gears to 4th. The mpgs with the 2.73s are good, but each gear is so ****ing long!! I'm sure I've hit almost a 100kmh in second gear which IMO is just not right with a mustang. But that's why ford put them in there....mpgs.

Which shop? I don't trust anyone down where I live so if I ever do a gear swap I'll being taking it to the city.

The shorter tires I had previously made it the equivalent of running a 3.75 (yes, I know that doesn't exist) but I loved it!!
I like the mpg and traction of the 3.55s, and yes, there is a difference :p

My post about 1.5k at 80 was a guesstimate to make a point. I went out today and its 1900 at 80mph.

Gary's Differential. When I went there they had a '09 Shelby that they had just got done putting 4.10s in so I took his word for it when he said he has done a lot of Mustangs. The shop looks legit too.

That's good to know that someone around can do it. Are you going to the mustang thing in Norman tomorrow?

Same here when my V6 still had the 2.73 gear, that tuned into 2256rpm at 75 with the 3.55s.
