Hurst??

Anyone have a hurst drive hard shifter stick and plate ?? Looks sick. Thinking about eating for my base 2012 auto. Was hoping someone could give me accurate info or a review on it.

I have the Hurst shifter. No problems, it looks nicer than the stock shifter, and installation was 30 minutes or less. The TCI looks too "gimicky" for my tastes. I like the simple look of the Hurst.

Ratchet? No. It's simply replaces the stock "T" handle. Are you talking about an automatic transmission?

Check this post:

A ratchet shifter for an automatic??

If you want firmer shifts, simular to those of a manual transmission, get a tune; cheaper then the ratchet shifters, and much easier, as you'll put it in drive, and the tune firms the shift's, and makes for better shift points.

No, it's not. I was looking at the TCI ratchet shifter awhile back; saw one on ebay...I read quite a bit of pros/cons of it (the early ones were prone to failure) and decided against the "gimicktry" of it.

My tune provides nice, crisp, firm shifts. No need for the ratchet shifter.

So with the hurst automatic kit you can still shift from 1st to 3rd on accident or even reverse or whatever ?

I have the hurst as well the tci is quite the contraption if you ask me...
if you can get just the handle for the hurst I'd just do that there are some fitment issues with the plate

I read that too when I bought my Hurst handle. Also found this when I googled the shifter and plate:

"Will not work 100% with the 2013 Mustang - Ford changed the stock shift plate so the install instructions aren't exactly correct. Also the stock PRNDL will not line up with the Hurst opening in the plate" "

Ford did change the automatics in 2013 ("Select Shift"), so this handle works for 2011 and 2012 automatics only.

Install instructions:

http://www.catalograck.com/ImgVD/HUR/5380420.pdf

Here's a link to Amazon that sells them:

Satin finish:

http://www.amazon.com/Hurst-5380421-...ype=automotive

Black finish:

http://www.amazon.com/Hurst-5380423-...V0VFE6VX8063YY

Again, very easy installation.

In buying any replacement shifter/handle for the automatic transmissions, be sure it has the O/D button! There are some aftermarket ones that do not have this, and you have to be creative to equip one. The Hurst has the button, and the correct harness clip to simply plug into the factory harness.

I "customized mine a tad by using a black sharpie marker to fill in the "HURST" letters in black. You could do it in any color that you can get with sharpie markers.

But mine had the factory harness clip, so I simply had to unplug the factory shifter with its O/D button harness, and plug in the Hurst handle, with its harness and factory equipped plug.

Easy peasy.
