3.73 gears affect top speed ?

Okay I searched quite a bit and couldn't find an answer to my question. Well after borlas I'm now planning to go with 3.73 or 3.55 gears. Currently mustang is electronically locked to 115mph. If I put new gears will the top speed decrease or will it remain same? In other words, Is electronic lock based on speed or rpm?

This is my daily driver and I used in winter as well. Highway driving everyday and is about 48 miles with about 5 miles of city driving. What do you guys recommend ? The service tech at ford is willing to install gears for about 400-500 with oil, etc. he will also tune the speedometer. I will get the tuner soon too.

Thanks

Speed. If it was based on RPM, your engine would be cutting out on you all the time as you go through the gears.

Not necessary, it can be programmed to cut out the engine ONLY in 6th gear at a certain rpm. This would limit the speed then. If it is locked using speed then I'm sure top speed won't be affected with 3.73 gears but if it is locked using rpm then the top speed would decrease.

Same can be said for if you get a taller tire in the rear. That will make less rotations than before so your rpms will go down which will technically raise the top speed......

It's based on actual speed
