Long term fuel mileage

Here is my 10,000 mile average ( 70/30 highway/city). I haven't reset it since I took ownership of the car with .7 miles on it, car was delivered Aug 22, 2013.

Specs on my car: 100% stock, 2014 3.7, Premium, MCA package with glass roof, MT82 and 2.73 gears.

This also includes 10+ minutes of idling at start-up nearly every day over the winter months.

Prior to winter, I was averaging a little over 26 MPG.

At my local gas station (Winchester, Indiana), 93 octane is $3.93/gal. So at current prices, I would have spent $1,625.05 in fuel for the car to date.

I have to give props to the engineers at Ford. Creating a car that looks and performs the way the Mustang does while achieving this kind of real world efficiency is a hell of an achievement.

So post up your long term mileage (500 + miles).

I got no long term info but this was after a 20 minute drive at around 60mph.

Ford changed the game with these new mustangs. I get better gas mileage than my buddies 4cyl turbo cruze ::evil laugh::

I only use 87 octane

I always get anywhere from 24 to 26 MPG around town. I usually use gas from Sams club or BJ's.
On my Vacation the last time I averaged over 30 MPG but it was 90% interstate driving at 70 to 80 MPH.
3.7 with automatic and 2.73 rear gear. 2012 MCA.
I have no complaints at all on the MPG my car gets using 87 Octane cheap gas.

Long term fuel mileage

I usually see about 16-17 average thanks to me living in the city and having 3.31 gears and having a lead foot. Essentially my Mustang rarely sees the highway.

So 2,000 miles and 92,000 on a 2011 aren't enough miles? Do tell :p

Bama is testing one. I'm one of the testers. They gave me the settings to play with and I've been dialing it in for about a month. Interestingly, I've got it to get better mpg at 70mph than the typical 65. My 40mph rpm in 6th is 1050. Pretty cool stuff

I think he means that if they just reset the Average MPG meter, they need to get some more miles on it before coming up with an actual reading.

Whats the lowest speed you stay in 6th gear? If I am just going 30 MPH or more, without the need for acceleration, I am in 6th gear. I want to say it's around 750 rpm.

So the eco tune is looking promising?

Yupp. I can get a 1 ton truck to read 40mpg on instant. Too bad it averages out to 7mpg lol.

mpg varies a lot, type of gas be used and how hard the car is driven, idling.
figuring out the mpg by dividing the miles on tank and gal. of gas used. I have gotten has high as 42 on the hwy, and as low as 7mpg driving it hard. if you want high mpg you can get it if you discipline your self if you want the power it is there as well.

From 0-7800 miles on my car I've averaged 30-33mpg driving 65-68mph.

I am also wondering about the lowest speed/RPMs you stay at in 6th. I have a manual and if my RPMs drop below 1400-1500 or so I usually downshift. When I got my car my dad told me not to let it RPMs drop too low because it would bog down the engine and cause damage in the long run. I average about 24.5 mpg so I haven't given it much thought, but is it okay for these engines to cruise at low RPMs like that?

I would think so, it's about 150 rpm higher than what my car idles at. For a constant speed it works fine, however there isn't much acceleration, so if it's needed I will shift to a different gear.

If you let the rpm drop low enough, it will start stalling but the momentum of the car will keep bump starting it. That would not be good as it would likely put more wear on the timing chain, transmission and rear gear.

A car will get better mileage not being pushed to the edge for such reasons as described by Ish416. If you're in 6th at 1400 PM, you should be in 5th.

As the engine labors less, the MPG will increase.

You are getting 3.7 V6 average MPG

crbrannan say's:
Quote:
I average about 24.5 mpg
24 to 26 is what just about all of us gets in normal driving conditions. You will get more on a long trip unless going through the mountains.

As far as lagging an engine. Not a good option. It is hard on the engine, transmission and your not going to save as much MPG as you think you would.

You may save on a long drive on a level road but in normal driving it is not saving you anything.

You want good MPG???? Get a SMART CAR, Oh! They don't get any better MPG around town then our Mustang V6's They get worse on the interstate.

Ronnie

That's kinda how this tune works. It'll hold the gear till 2k and it'll shift. On a deceleration, it'll bump down to idle speed if you're below 45. Then for 3-2-1 it'll kick up to 1100 when it downshifts. It'll lurch the car forward when really all I want is for it to coast to a stop. I can't tweak the trans sadly.

The tune forces a shift at either 1800 or 2000 rpm and it's fast.

That's crazy low. On the way home I did a test. My automatic will shift into 5th at 40. 45 is at 6th.

Just got back from another 1200 mile round trip to Alabama a coupe weeks ago. Still hitting 31mpg on long trips. Actually calculation for the 625 miles down there was 31.3mpg. I actually did a hair better coming back.

25k miles on the car at this point.

Try setting your instant MPG over time to 30 minutes. Its under Fuel Economy and to the right of the instant MPG.

Then do a normal drive and see what it looks like, might let you know where your MPG drops or what you are doing to achieve such low numbers.
