Gear synchros going bad

When I get into the higher rpms in second and try to shift to third it won't go in it grinds the gear and spits it out anyone know what it could be other than a synchro problem? Also when I shift with low rpms it's fine!!!!? ????

Could be a stripped 3rd gear, could be the fluid, clutch might need to be adjusted. Most likely the synchro though. However I'm not an expert on transmissions.

I had a similar problem. But on my mt-82 transmision it was the selectors from the gears. Click image for larger version

If you zoom in you're gonna notice how badly worn the plastic shoe is. It being replace by these steel ones

Also 3rd gear synchro was bad.

My GT is 2013 and I dunno if your transmision uses those plastic shoes.

No. Under my budget. Here's the thing. Ford doesnt know how to diagnose this problem besides asuming its a bad synchro. These plastics shoes evetually will brake from either normal usage or power shifting. Ford will mount the oem plastic shoes and it doesnt suit my mods and future projects; best case scenario Ford gives u a new tranny BUT u still will have the same issue. Thats why its highly recommended to mount a short shifter with a bracket.

I decided to switch those shoes, put all the synchros new a mwg short shifter with a bracket and make it right.

Thats the thing if you already have those plastic shoes damage even mounting a shifter kit you will still have a problem. Thats was my case also, it was best and highly recommended to do it when it was brand new.

We learn from trail and error brotha. The best you should do is take it to ford specialist but that are focused on performance to get it properly diagnosed.

Lol, I remember before I replaced the shifter bracket shifting, under load was a mess, third gear lock out. The stock shifter bracket is probably the most useless piece of **** I've every seen on a performance car! Once I replaced it with the Barton shifter bracket from AM it was like night and day! IMO the stock shifter isn't all that bad its the ****ty bracket that causes all the deflection under load causing lock out. I do here that the MGW shifter is excellent and one day I'll upgrade to it but for now the bracket has helped 10 fold. Just my 2ยข

I have a read a fair amount of users for botj barton a mgw. I went with the mgw cause the bracket looked really strong and with the new desing it is the easiest one to lubricate. At the end lf the day it comes down to your personal preferences.

25k miles on mine now. Have occasional issues with 2nd and 3rd being notchy, but its only at lower rpms and I usually can avoid it if I let everything warm up and slow down a bit. High RPM shifts seem fine as can be. I've got a Barton bracket and it helped a lot.

I've heard of this being solved with upgrading yout clutch line to a braided.

Out of curiosity, how hard are these trannies to break down? I've never worked on a transmission but I've done head and valve train work before in pushrod engines. Easy enough compared to that? Also, what kind of specialty tools do you recommend?

I did a 6R80 to MT82 swap this January. The break down is not bad at all, however the problem is that you will need ford specific tools ($480) to get some of the gears pulled off the shafts, as well during re installation. This is not optional, most seal/gear pullers will not work for this.

What it sounds like to me is you have a blown 3rd gear synchro ring. Could be caused by a number of issues. All stemming from the poor bracket design of the rear tranny braket. Bent shift fork, worn shift pads and shift rod deflection due to the bracket design all all on the table.
