thanks guys.. I really like these rims in black. might have just saved a chunk of money instead of buying new rims.. at least until these tires are shot and I can order the tire/rim set.

what do y'all think about doing red calipers? would that throw it off being all blacked out or would it be a good contrast piece?

I think red calipers would give it a nice splash of color. Just my opinion though.

thanks, just don't want them to stick out too much and look gaudy. i'll be doing lowering springs next, so I may just do them while I have the wheels off. what is the best paint to use for them?

Looks fantastic. I plan on doing the same soon. Did you leave the wheels on or take them off, and if you left them on, how did you cover the pony emblem?

I left them on and used painters tape to cover the emblems. wasn't as tedious as I expected it to be.

you can actually see it in the first pic, which was in between coats of paint while drying

I did the same to mine, I think they came out pretty well. I didn't do a very good job though since I can see parts of it coming apart at the lip. I'm going to try and re-dip the wheels and play the plasti-dip glossifier this summer

I also think leaving the lug nuts alone makes a nice contrast.

Oh I see now. Couldn't tell what I was looking at before. dipmyride.com mentioned rotating the wheels every so often. Did you do that, or just leave them in place. Also, did you add anything beside the plastidip like a glossifier?

did 2 coats then moved car to 'flip' the rim and did 2 more coats

and all I used was the plastidip rattle can

Can I ask what you guys are paying for a can of plasti dip? Up here its 19.99 and I thought I read some of you paying like 5 or 10$ a can? If so I'll wait until I go down to Plattsburgh and pick up a few cans.

Here in California it's about $6 a bottle. Have you tried ebay, amazon, or the dipmyride website? You can get 4 bottles on those sites from between $25-$30.

agreed! if they were at least 18s I'd paint or powder coat them flat black and keep them. the plastidip is only to hold me over until I replace the rims. which I don't want to do until my tires need replacing...

There's another product similar to plastidip called Flexidip. I'm not sure how it compares to plastidip, but based on what I have read online it's pretty comparable.

wanted to add that I'm quite impressed with the durability of this stuff. I have a paid unlimited pass at a car wash in town, and I thought sure I wouldn't be able to pass through anymore without messing them up, but I just tied my heart and went, and they still look perfect. very, very, pleased with this stuff.

---------- Post added at 05:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:47 PM ----------

oh, and I suppose the bug bit me... ordered exhaust today.. and lowering springs should be arriving any minute now
