Tune + cai combo questions

Hey guys I'm new here and I've been doing a lot of research on tunes and intakes for the 2014 v6 mustang. My first question is that bama claims the cai can provide similar hp&tq gains as the tuner can. When stacked with one another the gains do not stack thus really only one or the other is needed, is this true? Lots of information I read says that cai are nothing more than good sound accessories.

If you guys recommend the tune which one do you recommend. I'm leaning towards bama for lifetime tunes, customer service, and #8 warranty. Thanks a bunch guys. Here's a pic of my mustang. Contemplating rocker stripes. Click image for larger version

The combo is good to have

Without the tuner the CAI does not do much at lower RPM. Of course it does flow more air then the engine can use at high RPM. The Stock V6 airbox is just as good at low RPM but not as good at the upper RPM's. It is still OK and 90 % as good at air flow at the highest RPM.

Now add a Tuner and the CAI is the way to go at any RPM. I personally like the Airaid or any that draws air from the grill as does the stock box. If the CAI you decide on does not draw air in from the grill area it just will use hot air from the engine compartment.

The Airaid connects into the vent that the stock airbox used to deliver outside air that is cooler.

If your into performance and can afford it and don't worry about warranty, The Combo is a good thing to get. I see a lot of people rave over the Steeda Combo. The Steeda CAI does require a tune. The Airaid does not. That is if you just want a CAI and no tuner.

Like these guys said, A tune and Intake definitely go well together. Most of the power gains do come from the Tune. However, there is some benefits to the CAI. Little more power, torque and some great looks/sound!

Going with a Bama tune will be great for your Sixxer. We've tuned a ton of 2011+ V6 Mustangs and were actually the first 11+ V6 into the 11's in the 1/4 mile! It's safe to say we definitely have every aspect of that car figured out. Feel free to give the Bama team a call and ask any questions you may have! Being that your Mustang is also Automatic you'll benefit from much more aggressive transmission parameters.

I hope this helps! Let me know if I can be of any assistance or if you have any questions at all. Our Bama Performance tuning specialists are here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and Saturday 9AM-5:30PM EST. You can hit them up directly at 888.226.9764 and they'll get you squared away!

Tried and proven

For a car your going to be just driving and not racing I think the Bama Airaid combo would be your best option. That combination has been proven over and over to be reliable and a very good performance Modification.

Also curious OP what year is your car?

13-14 cars are a little different than the 11-12.

Dan, have you guys figured it all out with the 13-14 autos? I know there have been some hiccups with these?

Yeah, I've been watching closely on several forums about the 13-14 V6 autos with tunes. With all due respect to AM, I really haven't seen AM/Bama step up and address this on any of the forums. Didn't mean to jack this thread, just my 2 cents

Hey Guys,

I wish I could shed some light on this. I honestly haven't seen any reported "hiccups" with the 13-14 V6 Tunes. There is a slight chance that it got past me but I'm honestly not sure. I'll get with our head tuning specialist and see what they're seeing.

I'll then be able to give you guys an honest answer!

Hope this helps.

As far as the discount code goes because of our agreement with the forums, we can only give away the coupon code to members with over 50 posts. However, in the mean time try these:

American Muscle Coupon Code, Discount Code at AmericanMuscle.com

And hit me up when you have 50 posts and I'll gladly hook you up! Thanks for your business and loyalty!

My Airaid CAI isn't nearly as loud as others I see... is there anyway I can make it louder? Or do I need to purchase a new filter?
