Second hand Bama Tuner issues

Just bought a used bama tuner thinking i would still be able to use the free lifetime of tunes, just to find out I can't!
I planned on installing this lethal O/R H pipe, but it requires a tune. Does anybody know if the 3 custom tunes it already has on the tuner will get rid of the check engine light that the H pipe will bring ?

Wow....... You should have done some reading first lol. Has the tuner been unlock or is it still married? I'm assuming the three custom tunes are from the previous owner?

Bama can't honor second-hand tuners with their lifetime tunes. That would make no business sense at all. You should have checked before you bought it. Get your money back and buy a new one.

I only paid 250$ for the tuner and an JLT intake, I guess I could just pay another $150 for lifetime tunes again

And no it's not married to his car. It's unlocked

Yea this is the point where you come on here to ask "can I still get free tunes from a used tuner" before you actually buy the tuner.

The only way the tunes on the handheld would work with your car is if you have the same exact computer code (4 digit on the ECU). Tunes are written for the specific strategy code on the car - and then it will only work if the tuner has been unmarried from the original owner. Don't confuse "unmarried" with "unlock" - different things. The tuner will show 5 unlocks for instance, but if it is still married to the other car that is meaningless.

So IF it is unmarried (that happens when the prior owner sets his car back to stock) then you will need to buy the new tunes from American Muscle (or any of the tuners, it is just a computer file you download to the handheld). American Muscle lifetime tunes are for the original purchaser, not for subsequent purchasers of the handheld; the website makes that clear I think.

If the seller didn't set his car back to stock before you bought the handheld, then you have to send it to SCT to get it unmarried so you can use it. That will cost $150. So I hope that you checked that before you bought the unit.

Then 400$ for a tuner and intake is pretty good! Call Bama and they will hook you up!

Sorry to hear about that but as as TedG had said Bama is unable to honor a second hand tuner...Shoot me a PM so I can see what you're working with and maybe I can help lend a hand!

Oh good lord, you didn't research bro. NO GO. Your gonna have to buy into the free tunes for life program for 150 dollars. That's why I would never buy a used tuner especially for 250 dollars. 250 dollars plus 150 is 400 dollars. A brand new top of the line tuner is less than $400. Bad move bro but live and learn. Ask on the forums .

We will steer you in the right direction.

I've edited this thread's title as it seems to insinuate that the tuner itself is at fault when, really, no research was done. Now, I have my own opinions on canned tunes but this is neither the time nor the place.

And honestly, $250 for the tuner and a JLT is a damn GOOD deal. Just a tuner alone new is $379 with the free tunes, for a little more than that you are getting the same thing and a free air intake.

Yeah I guess my mistake isn't turning out to be as bad as I thought . I'll probably end up buying the free lifetime of tunes anyway
