long trip mpg

Friends, I recently drove from Chicago to Prescott Az. with my 12 Mustang. Crusing at about 2200 rpm I got 32 mpg from St.Louis to Amarillo Tx. My car has stock tires, 3.55 rear gears and a Shaftmasters aluminum driveshaft along with an 87 tune from Diablosport. I had to stop to piss more often than to get gas! Not to shabby.

Good to hear! Gotta love having a car with power that can sip fuel!

Haha, I know the feeling on that stopping to piss. 600 mile trip I only have to stop to fill the car once, I have to stop more often to use the restroom.

Interesting that you get the same gas mileage as I do with 2.73s (I got about 78mph). What road speed is 2200rpms?

I was crusing in the low 70s. I had the car loaded and it was about 3900-4000lbs. I was in no hurry and after OKC it was up hill. I had my wife following so no high speed blasts. What I did do was keep track of the mileage and fill ups, doing the mpg with math. The car said 29.9 mpg and it didn't move for hours so I started to check at each fill up myself. That's when the figures started to make sense. The car really surprised me. I think 2200 rpm is a sweep spot for this motor.

long trip mpg

This is what I got yesterday on a 180 mile round trip. I hadn't calculated it by hand yet. 2.73 gear, automatic, completely stock.

Can't complain about a 300+ hp car getting 34 mpg.

Maine to Lake Tahoe, on our way to San Francisco we have been getting 25.7 mpg. Our 13 stang is freighted. I think I killed the mpgs going through utah and Nevada at 110 mph for at least two hours. Before that we were getting 29. I will say that I am surprised at how awesome this car is for a long distance tourer. Comfortable, fast and great mpg's. Also the range is great, which with the v8 would really kill your time due to the constant fill ups.

I just drove from California to Wisconsin and saw quite a rise in my MPG from averaging 22 to 27.5. Drove at mostly 70mph the entire trip and kept it on cruise control. Can't complain.

Temperature makes a big difference too. I live in Michigan. In the summer I'll get around 29-30 mpg driving about 75mph on long trips. In the winter it will be more like 25-26 mpg. 2.73 gears, auto.
