I ordered the 91 performance(engine) Race(transmission) tune and I'm wondering if I should give MPT a call and change the trans setting over to their "street."

I searched for similar threads discussing the differences between street and race trans settings and couldn't find anything so I thought I would ask.

Can anyone give me a good comparison of the race and street settings?

My driving habits are city driving light to light. I'm sort of thinking the race tune will be too aggressive on the tranny for city driving but would the street be too big of a compromise of power?

Thanks in advance guys!

My car feels totally different from when I was using BAMA tunes. I have on demand power at all levels of the power band and especially the lower part where I was lacking the most.

I have only driven it about 25 miles so far but holy smokes am I impressed!

It didn't seem to hurt my city MPG any either.

The only thing I'm going to have to get used to is the effect it gives you when you take your foot off of the pedal to coast. It does this thing to where it almost feels as if it is downshifting every time you coast. It isn't something to complain about it is just something I will have to get used to because it causes me to keep my foot on the pedal more.

Overall I'm very impressed 25 miles in and I urge everyone who wants the most our of their car to spend the $75 on a MPT tune.
I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your new Tune. I had a few questions for you!

What didn't you like about the Bama tune? Are you comparing our Street vs. your new Race tune? What Octane were you running? Did you Datalog with us?

These are just a few quick questions that come to mind. We're working on overhauling our V6 tunes as we speak and I think you would be really impressed with the new stuff. We haven't released it yet and nobody has tried it, besides our shop cars we're building the tune on. Since you have a good eye for what is important about a tune would you like to test the new tune for us and compare it vs. your current tune and your old Bama tune?

I'd love to hear you feedback! We want all of our tunes to be perfect and with the help of our customers feedback I think we can achieve that. Our new 2011+ GT stuff is incredible and I was super impressed! Nothing was wrong with our old options but as time goes by our tuning specialist find more and more things that they can bring to the table to benefit you!

I hope this helps. Let me know if you'd like to do this with me! If so I'll be in contact today! Just shoot me a pm with your contact information or most recent order number.

Thank you for your business!

Dan,

Figured I would throw in my .02 here. To be completely honest the only thing I didn't like about the Bama tunes for automatics was the shifting. The shifts felt very slow, there was like a 2 second gap between shifts on my Bama tunes. MPT the shifts are very fast and firm. Maybe a little more torque down low and then I think the Bama tunes would be perfect.

Yes Dan, I can say that I agree with Mickey 100%. I don't think there is anything "wrong" with Bama tunes I just think that they are a little more conservative, especially down low compared to the MPT tune.

+3 Yep, I echo these two gentleman. I have a manual and even after several and I mean several datalogs and attempts to get my tune dailed in there were idle issues and the performance still felt meh! compared to the MPT tunes I have now. Bama tunes lack down low power/torque no matter which one you use (street, performance, race). I'm glad you guys are helping Bama overhaul the V6 tunes as they need it to keep up with others. Dan I think you guys should also help them in the customer service department as they lack in cs compared to A.M. or MPT. Until I know otherwise I will not be running Bama tunes again. Only MPT for me. I also would use my vehicle as a test car OP.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate that! I've already relayed this information to the Bama team. Throttle response and quick shifts for the auto guys are two of the main things we focused on with our new V6 tunes. Your guys feedback will allow us to better our tunes even further!

Thanks for letting me know, AJ! I appreciate your feedback for sure. I understand that you're happy with your current tune but I think you'd be really happy with our new/revised tune. Nothing wrong with the previous tunes we offered and they were perfectly safe. However, we take feedback like this and do our best to better our tunes and ourselves as a company.

Can you shoot me a PM and let me know who you spoke with at Bama and a little more information about the conversation? I would hate for the customer service you were offered to steer you away from us. I can definitely make this right for you!

Please shoot me a PM with your order number included and I'll have our head tuning specialist reach out to you!

MPT tune is the best tune hands down IMO

I appreciate the offer Dan bUT I'm good for now. I don't need anyone from Bama to reach out to me. I might try out the tunes at a later time after they revise them tho.

I'm looking at either Steeda or MPT for my DD '14. I want something that firms up the shifts and gets me more power, but isn't too aggressive for long term reliability. Is the MPT tune too aggressive for long term usage? Also, I assume the quicker/firmer shifts (while feeling harsh), are actually better for the transmission, correct?

The science says that quicker shifts have less slip that factory designs in for comfort. Less slip means clutch packs and bands have less ware and tear. BUT if you have drag slicks then its like clutch drops and can raise some issues in drive train. Street tires & firmer shifts are better for the trans based on years of gallery...errr...forum comments. [Any one remember no comments from the peanut gallery?]

I had both Steeda and MPT tunes in my past V6. Steeda can give you hard shifts if you ask them. Steeda is more safe for Dailies that don't need to be rad, and Steeda has stated they will even work with your Ford dealer if you have issues down the road.

MPT is real hard performance, it is almost like they or someone there was taught by Lund? {Bueller?}

They also have Ghost cam tunes that work, and give you the non-ghost cam tune on the side for daily drivin' when you don't need it, just only load it up when going to the car show.

Ford has looked at this and is now offering a 2013+ V8/Manual Track Key Procal tune that has Cam Loop Idle choice on start up. [Press off on cruise when starting if you want Ghost Cam off] I think the tuners can do the same as well once they think about it. I mentioned that idea over a year ago to most all of them. They said it could not be done without a tune reload. Now we know Ford can do it without a tune reload.

Can I have MPT create a "safe" tune, or would I be better off getting Steeda and buying 1 of MPT's tunes to add as a weekend "play" tune?

You can have MPT make whatever you want. After I received my three tunes from them ( 91 economy, 91 performance, & 100 octane) I told them I wanted to do some data logging to make my 91 Perf. Tune as safely aggressive as possible and my 91 economy tune get max mpg while still offering some performance for when I go on road trips. I worked with Ken Osbourne and he did just that. Couldn't be happier. Just be very descriptive with what you have (mods), what you want from the car and what kind of tune you want.

MPT is awesome and it pulls like a beast but their tunes are not so aggressive your engine is gonna blow up. They know there stuff and do not command the AFR to high. They are on the money with the commands especially for Wot AFR @ 12 parts to 1. Perfect command setting.

I've been running an aggressive MPT 93 race tune for over a year on my 13' auto and I'm fully bolted on with 3.73 gears, no problems what so ever.

Just ordered my first MPT tune.

I just got my MPT tune a week ago, runs good and I like it but I'm afraid it's running rich because of all the popping it makes now. I'm an auto but if I hang in say 2nd or 3rd gear and decelerate down form 3k RPMs I have a lot of popping.
