Shift Knob (help)

Hey all, just received my Modern Billet Retro Style 6-Speed Shift Knob - White (11-14 All) - Free Shipping today, tried installing but it seems theres not enough thread on the bolt for me to put the boot retainer then the knob? On AM the user installation guide also shows a nut I am supposed to tighten but I didn't see one after removing the stock knob.
edit: it might actually be the retainer that does not have enough thread.

Did you use a wrench on it? It will be tight but it will go all the way down.

It won't strip? I don't have the sized wrench I believe. Could I use channel locks?

It shouldn't. Make sure it's on straight and go slow. I wouldn't use channel locks, it will scratch. If you have to use them put a rag around it. A 15mm wrench would work much better though.

Going to be purchasing the boot retainer that AM offers. Seems others had same problem and had to buy the other boot retainer. Man $20, on top of the $35 shift knob. Might as well had bought the one with logo if that was the case lol, oh well.

I ordered the chrome shifter knob that comes with the retainer boot from AM and it just hand tightened and fit perfectly. Something is definitely wrong with what u got from them. It should have went all the way down to the boot by hand no problem.

Yeah that's weird. Mine was very right but once I screwed it all the way down it became easy.

Mine hand tightened no problem. Check the threads and make sure you didn't cross thread it

The nut that ur referring too it doesn't come with that style retainer, instead you just have to move the retainer up itself in order to correct the knob if it's not centered

I'll post some pics picks to show you how easy it should have been. DON'T use anything other than your hand to put it on, it should go on very easy with no torque required. I guessing its a defective boot retainer.

In the third pick you'll see the thread doesn't go all the way through the retainer and provides "clearance" for the unthreaded part of the steel rod. Check yours, maybe that's what's causing the problem. Hope this helps.

It has to be a defect or something. As you said it should have been easy to put on. Hand tightening got me to the picture I posted where it sits flush with the rod, and then attempted multiple times with the wrench and was only able to get a little more thread showing. Appreciate the help everyone. And btw the chrome knob looks really nice! It must get hot though once sun hits it?
