Clicking Noise in Engine

Hi all,

So I am new here and I have recently been reading a few articles where people have had an engine issue similar to mine. I have a 2012 V6 Coupe and after I had my most recent oil change done (at 28k miles), I got it back and all of a sudden there is now this ticking noise in my engine. My local Ford dealership has looked at it and the car has been in and out of the shop 3 times now since. They can't figure it out and have escalated it to national. I have attached the video below to see if any of you by chance may be able to identify the issue. The Ford service reps at my dealership don't seem to care too much about fixing it lol.

Let me know your thoughts!

Thank you in advance for any help you can give! I really appreciate it

Worth a shot but I had a Jetta which started clicking. Are you checking the oil? It tuned out that the oil pump was bad.

My 2011 is in the shop right now for the EXACT same noise. When I played your video it was just like listening to mine. The dealer is talking to Ford and trying to figure it out. They have had my car for a little over a week but I will post their findings as soon as I know something.

Just thought I would let you know mine is still in the shop. However after having a Ford National tech check out the car his determination is a possible warped flexplate which is effecting oil pressure which in turn is causing problems with the VVT and that is whats causing the ticking noise. They are dropping the transmission tomorrow and are going to check the flexplate.

The valve tick TSB is for the left side of the engine. Mine and from what I see in the video the OP posted is on the right side. I brought this TSB to the attention of the techs when I 1st brought my car in which they quickly dismissed.

Did it end up being the flex plate?

Well my car is still at the dealer (3 week's) they replaced the flexplate and torque converter and its still not fixed. I doubted that it would fix it but that's what they wanted to do. Fords national rep is coming in today to make more suggestions.

I also think this TSB was for early 2011 3.7 V6 engines. If yours is a late 2011 3.7 V6, then the TSB does not apply.

Got a call this afternoon and the Ford national tech decided to do a short block replacement. Hopefully that fixes it.

Would love an update from the OP. I've taken my 2014 in 5-6 times to have them look at this issue and it has yet to be resolved. Left it at the dealer for 3 days last week (printed out this thread for them) and they ended up replacing the purge valve. One week later it's making the noise again. Sounds exactly like it does in the YouTube video of the OP.

I'm at a loss because I really love the car, but this noise drives me crazy. My car will be out of warranty at some point this year so I really want to get it resolved before then. Makes the car sound like it's falling apart. I just cringe when I have my windows down. Is there a way to bypass the dealer and go straight to corporate?

What are the lemon law requirements for your locale?

SoL has run on any potential Lemon Law claim (1 year SoL and I've had it almost 2 1/2 years), plus it doesn't substantially impair the vehicle, it just sounds like crap. Other than the noise, the car works great. Getting it fixed or buying another car would be my only options.
