I'll admit, it does sound funny and when the MPT rep on the phone said the same thing to me about their tune is made too feel like manual. I was like huh. Its one of those things you have to feel in someone's automatic with a MPT tune to completely understand.

Certainly, not taking any credit away from bama because that's great too.

My tuner just shipped! Should be here Saturday or Monday. Pretty stoked to try out the 91 race tune.

Oh ya, you can sometimes find a VP station that will have 100 octane. San Diego had a few of them spread around but it was $8 a gallon! Sucks they don't have 93 though.
They definitely have a few in Newport and close by to you in Orange County.

So are these revamped BAMA tunes available to the public now? Or are they still exclusive to the few who were given beta access?

I'm very interested in their new tunes to compare to my awesome MPT tune.

Wow, 93 octane in O.C.? That's right in my back yard! Gotta check that out and see if I can find some. Thanks for the tip

When ordering my tuner, I asked Alex from AM the same question. He said the revamped tunes are being given out to everyone.

Sorry I should clarify, I ment that VP stations were in OC, if they have 93 then great! but I know they carry 100 but it's a very step price. You could always blend 50/50 100 octane with 91 to get 93.

That would not be a 50/50 mix. That would give you 95.5 octane. You would need 2 parts of the 100 octane to 7 parts of the 91 octane.

The point was not to be exact. It was just to give an idea. He could get a 93 tune and run a 50/50 blend and be ok.

UPS dropped off my tuner today! I'll post my thoughts once I get home from work and take her around the block.

Woohoo! Remember to load up that 93 race tune! Let us know how you like it...
The best feeling ever is loading up the tune, taking it to a nice long road and flooring it

Nawww, it's all about reving it as you slowly roll down hill in neutral.

So I loaded up my race tune and took her for a spin. I'll post some quick thoughts, but unfortunately I'm on my phone and can't go into too much detail. First and foremost, the throttle response is vastly improved. It feels good coming off the line and offers a great sense of "power on demand". I did take it to an empty back road and let her loose, hot damn it pulls hard! On the negative side, it felt like the RPMs would surge every once in awhile. Not a huge deal and I'm sure it can be fixed. Another oddity is that while cruising around 35 mph, it felt like the car wanted to lurch forward. It would do this strange movement, kinda rocking back and forth slightly. I found letting up on the gas or slightly increasing the gas fixed the issue. Once again, not a huge issue and only happened twice during hour long drive.
So far the tune has been pretty impressive. I'll get more time behind the wheel then come back and give a more in depth review. So far two thumbs up to BAMA.

T0P-
Your running the race tune correct? Drop down to the Performance tune and the "lurching" should stop. That race tune sure lights a fire under these ponies a$$ e $

I just loaded a 93 Race tune. not too different in feel from the 89 performance. Kind of bummed. I'm going to drive around a bit more tomorrow to see if it just needs a few miles on it.

Just got an updated tune and tried to test a few hours ago. The 3rd tune trying to correct issues. You would think that with testing and posting on internet forums that they would at least give you a tune that could get out of the driveway without a check engine light and other errors like throttle stuck in neutral going up an down from 2200 to 2700 rpm... Nope... Still testing... But now I am very worried as I never had a tune yet mess up the car so bad. Is this stuff even tested before emailing it out?.

Thanks for posting up a quick review! It sounds like you're really enjoying the tune! In regards to surging was this happening at speed along with the lurching? It's the first time I've heard about something like this!

Hey,

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble here but have you checked or scanned them to shed some light on the CEL's? The sticking throttle is a first as well! I'd really like to help get this fixed up for you. PM me your best contact number and a good time to call and I'll have a Tuning Specialist shoot you a call as soon as they're back on site!

I had a similar issue with the throttle "sticking", it turned out I needed to update the firmware on my SCT device. For some reason, that caused the tune to not apply correctly. After I did that, turned it back to stock and re-applied the tune that issue went away.

Maybe that was the problem in reverse? SCT has an update not even listed yet on their site. SCT Device Updater app told me to update as I was loading new tune to the X4. From memory, I think I had 1.035 and it stated new was 1.037. I followed instructions, installing stock tune, then updated to latest SCT X4 software. From there, installed tune like normal.

Well it has the software update (the software running on your computer) and then it has the firmware update of the device itself which are two different things. For the firmware it will advise you to make sure your car is set to stock before you flash the update.

In the SCT software you go to "Update Firmware" and follow the prompts.

Sounds like there is something up with either your tuner or software that you need to update, doesn't sound like those problems are coming from Bama's end.

I make my living off of being an IT tech support and service specialist so am used to updates. Yes, always check and update everything prior to doing anything. Perhaps the new SCT update was not compatible with what Bama was using at the time? Just reaching for straws here, as older tune loaded and worked fine with new SCT updates.

It's possible, however unlikely. I would think they run regular updates before writing tune files but I could be wrong. I don't know if they list older revisions of their firmware, for example the revision right before this one.

If they do, you could potentially flash it back to that one and see if it makes any difference.

Have you also tried any of the other tunes in the package? Do they all have the same issues?

Sorry if I was not clear. I updated to latest tuner software before installing tune. This latest software revision does not yet appear on SCT website, but does show up in SCT updater app.

No other weird issues like this with other tunes sent to me. Just this one tune. I think any SCT stuff can be ruled out. The other tunes load and work properly (as properly as they did before SCT update, which wasn't very proper and why I needed new tunes). Currently running the 87P tune originally sent 3 weeks ago as it seems the most problem free as a daily driver.

That may be the problem, you may have just updated early. I ONLY update my tuner when I first return the car to stock, then plug my tuner into the lap top, then update through the program, then load my tune again. I have not updated since I got *my last tune* as I don't see a point since for now I am not doing anything differently with my tunes. When I get my headers Saturday I will be asking Bama and MPT to update my tunes for them. I guess I will update my tuner then. I know the SCT software is crap.

Well if it's specific to that singular tune I'd call up Bama and have them take a look at it for sure. At the very least they should be able to tell you if it's a bad file or what.

If it was bad firmware like I had originally thought it would affect the other tunes.

Alex

What the heck are you doing working at 11pm? Oh, that's right, you are representing American Muscle and are always there to help. THANK YOU! A quick tune change cleared the CEL history (I guess). Already sent late night drinking email to bama about issue. But thanks anyway. Really. You should not be here at 11pm.

I don't say I'm always here or around for no reason ya' know. I'm always watching the threads and to be honest I like to be around late night, it's not work if you love what you do right? Can you PM me your email address so I can get someone on this right now?

Alex

Reloaded my stock tune, reloaded the 93 Performance tune, and still the same feeling. Feels heavier when taking off than the 87 Performance. Might just be me but I'm going back to the 87 tune

It happened to my 05 before I called Bama and asked why my 87 pulls harder than my 93 and they told me that it tuned for 3.7 I was shocked as I specifically put in writing that I have a 4.0. After that never tried Bama again. I still remember the guy who I spoke to but dont wanna name him. Eversince I have mpt

Borla touring, airraid Cai, Mac ceramic shorty headers, frrp x pipe, 2010 gt500 rims, 35 % tint and more to come..

Read all 20 pages of this topic and just put my order in for the Bama tuner.

I'm completely impressed with how helpful Alex and American Muscle have been on this thread.

I'm super psyched after reading this.
