Airaid Intake Tube

Just ordered this intake tube from Auto Anything. Free overnight shipping thru the end of the month. Not expecting any performance or mileage increase out of it. Just can't stand looking at that f'ugly stock intake setup every time I look under the hood...

$105 for a plastic tube with Airaid on it!? Jeez I would have just mailed you an Airaid sticker and you could have given me nothing...

Why not just spend a bit more and get the whole CAI?

The CAI I was looking at was $300, for the JLT painted one and I really don't think there would be any difference in power. I ordered this just to get rid of the stock intake and clean up the engine compartment a little bit. I'm not going to be tuning the car any time soon.

Why does anyone buy a CAI anyway? To clean up the look...

Yes they clean up the look as in they get rid of the god-awful airBOX that comes stock with a cool new FILTER that isn't hidden. You still have the box..... You just now have an arm that says airaid and has slightly different connection to the throttle body. Not to mention a CAI adds a really cool "whoosh" noise when you step on it and changes your exhaust tone completely. And while you may not tune it any time SOON, eventually I assume you will, and then you will have wasted $105 on the arm which you will get the same one of, if you even decide you want an Airaid.

I posted this same tube in my "3.7 OEM Intake Silencer Delete" thread in the DIY section the other day. Let me know how it turns out. In essence, you are are eliminating the silencer which should give you more under-the-hood sound. I just went about doing it manually without cutting it off the tube and patching it up like Bucko did. I don't fault you for ordering it. Follow it up with installing the AFE Pro-Dry air filter.

You're the one who got me thinking of this from that thread. I thought about going your route too, or build one at a friends house with some left over tubing from his turbo project. But figured this was the easy way out...I'm getting lazy in my middle age...Already have a K and N replacement filter in...

I'll post pics and thoughts of it once I get it in. Hopefully tomorrow...

I'll tell you, when I wanted to do it last year I looked around and no one sold just the tube. It wasn't until just last week or so that I see someone finally sells one that fits in between the stock air box and throttle body. If they were out last year, I would have gotten the tube instead of buying spare stock parts to modify like I did. The tube is smoother than the stock one, which has that accordion area. It would be nice if you could get a Ford blue oval decal to fit nicely right over the Airaid emblem. We all know our stock airbox is a true, sealed, CAI system.

I like it, not only does the stock air box perform just as well as the airaid Cai, you should now get the sound of one because it removes the factory "muffler" on the stock tubing! Great purchase IMO. Thumbs!

People spend alot more than that on engine dress up pieces which serve as only eye candy.....me included.

If you don't like the look of the tube but don't want the CAI, you did the right thing. Congrats on yet another mod

I wish I knew about this before I bought my airad/tuner combo. Lol.

I went with the AFE Pro-Dry, the white non-oiled one.

I just saw this thread and grabbermeblues' diy thread. Ssssooooo I remembered I had some summit bucks from my cdc grille purchase. Looks like I can pick one up for $85. I am definitely doing this upgrade ASAP. Hot damn I love this forum.

It took about 10 minutes to install. Definitely cleans up the engine compartment. I can't believe how ugly the stock intake is.

Yes, I know how dirty the engine is...Been lazy lately and getting ready for sinus surgery tomorrow, so haven't been in the detailing mode...

I notice a little bit more. Although there was a bigger change in sound when I put in the K and N air filter. I really wasn't expecting more from the filter, but did get it...I only took it out for a quick spin...

Steve...what did you do add the pony emblem on the side of your MCA package?

I ordered them and put them on. But, they aren't in the Pony Package location. I also put on some MUSTANG 2+2 emblems with the Ponies to give it that '66 Fastback look I love. (a throw back to when I had mine...)

Back to the Air Raid tube. Personally, I can't stand how the stock one looks. That box looking deformity sticking out of the front looks hideous. The new tube looks great and was a good purchased in my opinion.

I'm happy with it. I wasn't looking for any performance gains or anything. I am like you, that stock box is ugly. This intake tube really cleans up the engine compartment.
