Question about JBA shorty headers

Hello everyone,
I have a 2014 v6 automatic Mustang and I have a K&N cold air intake, a BBK 73mm Throttle body, Roush cat back mufflers and a BAMA tune. Now...I wanted to install some shorty headers, and the guy at a local speed shop ordered these for me:

JBA 11-16 MUSTANG 3.7L V6 STAINLESS STEEL SHORTY CAT4WARD
HEADERS

I was very excited to get these installed, until the guy who ordered them had to say this, "I have not had much experience with shorties, so I'm not sure if the check engine light will come on or not without having a custom tune". Whaaaaaat?
Now, I was not aware of this and he is telling me this because he says the O2 sensor might throw a CEL based on the larger amount of air flow. I told him that if I had known about this before hand, I would have said forget it and not had him order them. I told him that if he had told me this up front, because he is the expert here, then I wouldn't have done it and he comes back with well, you should have done more research.
I told him to forget installing them, and I can't return them because he said the restocking fees and shipping costs wouldn't be worth it, but he'll ship them to my house for free.
So, my question is, with this set up, can anyone tell me if this would cause a CEL if I ever decided to go back to a stock factory tune with these headers installed?
His shop is in Massachusetts and I'm in Rhode Island. He wanted 600 dollars in labor to install them for me, so I explained to him that if they did throw a CEL, then it would be 600 dollars to put the old stock headers back on, if they were reusable, and then I don't know if he would have to cut the stock mid pipe to install the new ones, and if he did, then I would need a new mid pipe on top of that, so forget it, just ship them to me and I'll have some very expensive wall hangers ;o(.
So, anybody have some good experiences with JBA shorty headers or did y'all run into a CEL issue?

$600. JUST TO INSTALL? That's robbery, unless that includes the price of the headers, I know someone who put those same headers on his truck, so far a year with no CEL

Get someone else to install them, I paid 3 hours labor. It should be under $300. The only way you might get a CEL is if they are installed poorly and leak. Maybe that is what he has done in the past.

Hi,
nope, the headers were 419.99, and then he was telling me 600.00 to install and that it would go from 11:30am to around 6:00 or 7:00pm at night.

Yeah, he is on the phone telling me that the best headers that he has installed are JBA and that's what he would use, and goes on and on about long tube headers. Then after he orders them and sets up a time to install the shorties basically says he's never installed shorties, let alone a v6, and I should have done more online research. I responded that he was the so called expert that recommended them to me in the first place. I have no confidence in this guy and told him to just ship them to me.

Oh, here in Rhode Island, there is a Ford Shelby dealer mod shop, and they refused to even consider doing a shorty header install for me, so I figured a local mod shop would be the way to go, but.....

11:30 till 6 or 7? Well actually that is an valid time frame IF. . .he is installing the blindfold with one arm in a cast. I had a friend in NY got the local midas dealer in Staten island island to install a set for him, they charged him for 3 hours labor, BUT since is was a unique situation they had to schedule an appointment a week in advance on a slow day. IT is worth a try. If you lived closer I'd say bring them here and gimme $200. and a case of Pierre water.

That's pretty pricy on the install. I did the BBKs on my old sixer and it sucked! Six to eight hours is reasonable time frame to expect if you do them yourself. Shorty install stories you'll read of "no big deal two hours" those folk are like your guy doing a lot of talk but haven't done them before. The passenger rear mounting nut is only accessible by a shorty open end wrench in 1/8" turns. That one nut was one hour. No way around it whether you are the Shelby Pro or the Walmart greeter on that. $600 is robbery but $300-$400 would be more reasonable simply from a standpoint of it really does suck that bad because of that one nut. Forgot the mention, the nut allowing the 1/8" turns before you flip the wrench... yeah well, it's tight in there and after 20 minutes of doing that you start dropping the wrench every tenth flip.

13mm ratcheting wrench and those header bolts are a breeze.

I did mine over a couple days but I had a nightmare of a time breaking loose the car bolts. Those were the only ones that caused much trouble.

Did the entire job just parked on some ramps in my driveway. Of course the drive is slightly slanted so the car wasn't at a ridiculous angle.

I posted all the tools I used in another thread. Doing it again... 4-6 hrs now that I have all the tools and know how to get those bolts loose.

I did the BBK's when my car was still pretty new so no problems with removal of anything. But like you said that passenger rear mounting nut can be a killer. Some say they got it from the bottom with and open ended wrench. I assume the problem with most was there wasn't enough room between the end of the engine stud and the BBK header the way it was designed. Non BBK's shouldn't have that problem.
What I ended up doing was...I ground the end of a box end wrench thin enough on one edge so that I could slip it through that small space to get it on the nut.
I did spend about 4 hours on it though with my biggest problem being realignment of the midpipes to make the connection to the headers. And I was working with low ramps only.
Never heard of anyone ever getting a check engine as a result of shortys.

I had the second set on in 4 hours since the first set had a leak. Sometimes if you put a drop of machine oil on the stud the nut goes on a little bit further, and tighten it up last, it won't get tight until right at the end
