California Special vs Raxiom Fog Light Kit

Does anyone have the California Special Style offered by LMR?

Mustang Fog Light Kit, California Special Style (13-14) - LatemodelRestoration.com

I am looking to install fog lights on my V6 and am looking at this kit and the Raxiom fog lights offered on AM

Raxiom Mustang Fog Light Kit (13-14 V6) - Free Shipping

The latter is about $150 more...

Any feedback is helpful, thanks!

The first one is just the Ford OEM kit. If you have a V6 without fog lights it won't work. You will need the ford switch and the Starkey wire harness to complete it. You are better off just buying the complete Starkey kit, great quality and very easy install.

The second one is basically the same as the Starkey kit, but I went with Starkey because they make quality wiring harness'.

If i were you, i would go for the GT fog lights. My car came with the v6 fog lights from the factory and they really don't do anything (almost don't notice they are on with the headlights on). The GT fogs look like they would actually light up the road a bit better.

Hey OP-I'm more than happy to work with you on the price. Shoot me a PM and I'm happy to have a quote set up for you.

Actually, this mod would be more aesthetic than functional (I don't normally drive through much fog where I live), and down the road I would like to change out my grille to one of the options offered by Roush. I appreciated the feedback though!

OP; I just bought the Starkey wiring harness for $190 and the oem Lower Valance fogs from an online ford dealer for $116, costing me a total of $306. The GT fogs will cost you $499 no matter where you go. The Starkey will cost you $399. If AM can work with you on the price, great! Go for it.

I went with the kit from starkey, in my opinion it did provide more lighting in addition to your regular lights. I do a lot of highway driving 50% at night and I did see a difference after installing. Click image for larger version

I have the gt fog lights but I would love to have the lower fog lights. Which kit would y'all recommend?

Starkey has a kit for $249.99

http://www.starkey-products.com/must...a-special-2013

that allows you to add the lower fog lights since. Since you already have the wiring harness you wouldn't need the complete kit.

Ford accessories also has a kit 149.99

http://accessories.ford.com/lamp-asy-fog-front.html

Which is says GT only so I imagine it's the same as starkey....with the ford site you have select your closet dealership and pay for install all when making your initial order. I've done this on other products. The install price is way cheaper than what I get quote in the service dept....

Thats what I did. Got the lights and switch from levittown ford and the harness through Starkey. Came out to $300 for the kit.

Oh thanks buds! One more question can I switch the fog lights to white? Like LEDs? And if I can, what kind of bulb do y'all recommend?

Epit2me's look white to me. I have these on my Roush and use them all the time, especially at dusk when I don't quite need the headlights but want a little something. Looks meaner than the GT grille lights, which I also have on that same car.
The installation looks easy enough. I have 'em on my mods list..

For anyone who has installed the lights themselves, is it very difficult? I watched the "how'to" video on LMR and the installation seems pretty straightforward. Looks like the most difficult part is actually removing the bumper cover.

It didn't take too long. Just patience with the wiring but it's pretty straight forward

California Special vs Raxiom Fog Light Kit

I just ordered a set this morning. You shouldnt have to remove the bumper cover for these.

No need to remove the bumper cover. You just need to be able to get up underneath the front bumper. I would suggest ramps and a drill to make it faster. If I had the proper equipment, I could have done it in just a few hours. You can do it without raising the car, but it is a royal PAIN! The other pain in the butt is trying to wire to the fuse box in the passenger side foot well. Best of luck.

Yes!!! I had to extend my wires for the passenger footwell and I used a jack. Didn't remove the bumper, I used a car jack, jacked up the front and removed the underguard and chin splitter to gain access...

Starkey kit installed

Installed the Starkey kit and everything works great, install was a bit more advanced than advertised but happy with the results. Also, changing the headlamp switch gives you the auto headlamp feature

Does anyone have the Part Number for the headlight switch that has the fog lights function?

For Part Number would be good... But Motorcraft Part Number would be great!

Motorcraft parts are very often cheaper by a significant amount, for the same part!

I'm not sure what the part number is, but if you go on eBay and type in "auto headlamp switch 2014 mustang" (or whatever your year) it will bring it up. The part is only about $25.

Mako, the car looks great!

The auto switch was the first mod I did and it yields so much bang for the buck. If nothing else, do that mod.

I agree, amazing looking ride!

Thanks for the info as well, I may end up purchasing the fog lights, but waiting until i have the grille as well, so I can install both at once

The headlamp switch used for the fog lights is different. I has another position for the fogs at about 7 o'clock on the switch.

The switch I bought works perfect for the fogs. It doesn't have a different position for the fogs. Instead it had a pull function which turns the lights on.

Just got done with the Starkey install. These things are sweet! A little expensive but worth every penny.

The only issue is that now I have an extra auto light switch as I bought one a few months ago..
