2004 BMW m3 vs Stang?!!

So my friend's buddy has a M3 and claims that my mustang is no competition for his m3. He says he has 335 hp, but when I seen it take off today it looked SLOW. Does anybody have a good guess on how much horsepower my mustang has. 2013 v6 with JLT intake , O/R h pipe, and a 91R bama tune. Or if you guys think I could take the m3! I would've raced him but I didn't drive my car when we seen him

Those M3 are suppose to run mid 13s. Your mods should put u around 275-285rwhp & you should be running mid 13s as well so it should be a drivers race. Best way to find out is to go to the track & find out!

Be careful of the M3; they are turbo'd as well.

My wife had one, and she knew how to drive it.

Idk. The M3 just didn't seem as fast as I expected it to be. Like somebody said above, only one way to find out! Maybe I'll throw on some headers before I race him

With 2.73s itll be close. My buddys 4.6 with 3.73s was barely inching away from my 3.7 with 2.73s. Change ur gears up and the m3 should be no competition. In a straight line atleast, dont go him around a track lol

The 2004 M3 (E46) was an NA 3.2 Inline 6. No turbo on it at all. Unless it was put there by someone else.

These M3 are known to be mid to low 13 second cars. With a tire and a decent driver, 12s are easily possible.

They are known to put down around 290 rwhp and 230 rwtq, stock. These cars weigh in at just over 3400 lbs.

My guess is that the Mustang will get pulled on, unless of course the M3 driver sucks or the car is an auto.

I would be leaning towards the m3 here... Are you both manual/auto? That will make a huge difference at the track. If you are auto and he is manual I would give it to you , vice versa to him, both auto to him, both manual whoever the better driver is

Even if the m3 is an auto it's going t be the smg transmission which is an automated manual and shifts fairly quickly so if it's an auto or a manual (assuming he can drive) I don't think it would make a huge difference

We both drive manual. And his is stock so definitely no turbo. Hopefully I'm the better driver in this case.

If you can throw on some drag tires you'll win no problem

I would say the M3 should be able to handle a V6 Mustang pretty easily. It comes down to driver too.

I am so happy I went with the factory 3.31 option. I haven't experienced the 2.73's. They sound as bad as the stock tune is in these cars.

I'd get 3.73 gears to put your car in power band quicker - which is 3000 rpms+. It's the torque that you feel when you launch and if that m3 is rated at 230 at wheels, you should be gold to smoke your buddy. Provided you don't screw up as a driver lol

Where do you see 230 to the wheels????

Those cars are very well balanced and very well geared.

Seen plenty run low low low 13's stock.

The M3's generally put down around 230 rear wheel torque and 290 HP at the tires. That is what a full bolt on 3.7 puts down, just a bit less torque.

So, advantages for the Mustang - torque and uhh... 'Merica.

Advantages for M3 - more power, better gearing, better suspension, better weight balance, less weight.

Even with all that, if the M3 driver sucks, the Mustang will have it. If the drivers are of close to equal skill, the M3 wins.

FWIW, my 3.7 went 13.6 @ 105.2 with a 1.96 60', on stock tires with 2.73 gears and manual transmission. I would guess that your average M3 with a decent driver could pull off an ET and trap very similar to that. A good driver in an M3 would be even faster.
